Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a long time traveler and I feel I'd love to give back. Also, I love sharing time with fellow travelers. My life is enriched by the people I meet along this winding path and I absolutely love meeting people from places I've never been!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

hmmm... my first real couch surfing experience was on exchange to Germany in the spring of 1997. My exchange brother was 21 and had his own apartment in Hannover. My parents would not let me stay with him so he asked his good friend and his family let me crash at their place. For 17 days I had a total blast and stayed with my host family about 8 of those days :) lots of couch surfing. I really miss my host brother, Robbie Mueller. His real name is Jens and his older brother briefly played with The Scorpions. Do you know him?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I saw this thing that was like a Moon-bow... not like the rainbow we can sometimes see around the moon at night... no, this was something entirely different. It was The Coyote Music Festival at Summer Lakes Hot Springs in Eastern Oregon Summer Solstice 2008. We were hit by an incredible sudden wind that was like the hand of god reaching down and giving us all a good swat. Tents went flying... the dome we had set up as our small cafe was totally blown off (get it?) and it left utter destruction in it's path as it was blown further and further away. My friend Willow and I went chasing after it and found it over 100 meters away caught up in a fence. When we got to it we discovered two dudes inside already trying to wrestle the thing down. Anyway - back to the original reason I started this story, we returned to find our friends had circled up the wagons (three small motor homes) and what was left of our cafe was the floor of the dome (literally ripped off by the giant God-smack) with the super comfy rugs and pillows still set up. We all nestled up in them and stared up at the clear sky above that was seemingly so peaceful. The moon was revealed and it was shining on something that looked at first like a long, skinny tornado that was still. Everyone was pointing and asking 'what is that'? As the moonlight became stronger the moon-bow was revealed... I still have no idea what it was or how it was but it was amazing. Someone pointed out that we would have never been looking if our dome hadn't have been blown off. :)
