关于我

CURRENT MISSION

To meet new people and have fun!

ABOUT ME

I'm a friendly, easy-going person that has become pretty bored of the day-to-day so I really want to go and try out all type of new and interesting things. Whether it's a new sport, food, music, or even an entirely new country I want to go out and experience it (and hopefully make a few new friends along the way!).

PHILOSOPHY

"Live every week like it's shark week"

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I've only been to a few events hosted by other couch surfers but it's all been a very positive experience and I've enjoyed every second of it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not much as of yet but I'm hoping to actually do some proper couch surfing soon.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Edit: WARNING Wrote the following when I was pretty drunk but I like them so they're staying :)

1) Back in 2008 I was on holiday with a group of college friends in a small, Turkish town on the coast (can't for the life of me remember where!). It was mid evening and we were all drinking outside on one of the restaurant terraces when a few TVs were put out for everyone to watch the Euro 2008 Turkey v. Germany semi-final. Now I don't follow football at all but even I could tell it was a really fantastic match and Turkey were playing really well, which meant everyone was a little depressed when they went 1-0 down early on. However that soon changed when they equalized a few minutes later! I remember there being a huge roar as people started cheering, waving flags and hugging each other. Fireworks were set off from all the hotels and small children were running around in the street, dancing with red and green flares (the pyrotechnics not the classic 70's trousers!). It was like they had won the whole tournament, and it only got better when they equalized for a second time! Unfortunately we all know how it ended but I can only imagine how good the night would have been if they had won.

2) When I was on holiday with my family in northern Italy we decided to go and see an opera, "Aida" at the "Arena di Verona", an old open-air Roman amphitheater (unsurprisingly) in Verona. Technically I got to experience two amazing moments on this night as the first was on the drive there in our hire car we got caught in the most incredible thunderstorm I've ever seen! It was seriously like someone was pouring buckets of water on our windscreen which would have prevented us from being able to see anything at all had it not been for the huge forks of lightning cracking across the sky! When it eventually died down about 20 minutes before the performance we thought it would surely be cancelled and we would have wasted a trip, but it wasn't and the entire arena was almost completely dry by the time we were seated. The opera itself was really great but my favorite moment of the entire night was 5 minutes before the performance. By now it was quite dark so the light operators dimmed all the stage lights until we could barely see anything. Then suddenly people started standing up and shining lighters, matches, torches and any other things that produced light. The scene was amazing, just a huge blanket of twinkling lights waving from the other side of the arena.

3) Years ago when I was in explorer scouts we traveled to Scotland for the yearly "Snow and Ice" trip to do some outdoor sports and activities like skiing and rock climbing. One of the activities was a two day hike which involved walking though a large forest on the first day and hiking up one of the "Munros" (mountains in Scotland over 3000ft) on the second. Now as our group were a bit more experienced/older we were offered the chance to go on the "Advanced Hike". Naturally without even asking what it entailed we all signed up straight away only to be told we would be climbing not 1, not 2 but 3 munros... in one day!!! To be honest even though I was reasonably fit that hike nearly killed me! We carried our full camping kit as well as snow gear (including ice axes) up hills, through bogs and at one point across a very narrow ridge whilst we were all roped together and it started to snow pretty hard! However when we finally reached the summit of the final Munro and I was thoroughly ready to go home I was greeted with one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. The mountain curved around on itself forming a valley over which it cast a shadow. Looking down you could see the most amazing array of colours; the pitch black peat of the bogs, the white of the still melting snow near the summit, the vibrant green of the long grasses and the purply-pinkish colour of the heather. Whilst being incredibly picturesque the stark contrasts made it seem almost alien in appearence.
