CURRENT MISSION
Moving to Austin and trying to learn how to play the pedal steel guitar
ABOUT ME
I guess I've always been an independent thinker, convivial and outgoing at times, but with a distinct need for occasional lone wondering. I value my friendships sincerely. I think I'm sentimental at times, but I try not to let it get in the way of trying new things.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I stayed in Michigan years ago and it was great!
Interests
I love hearing great songs. I try to make things that sound half as good on my guitar and other instruments I have lying around. I like going for long walks, running, and just generally being outside.

Music, Movies, and Books
I really love Annie Dillard, and I went through a John Updike phase. Just read Hitchhiker's Guide and loved it. Last summer I finally came to Perks of Being a Wallflower, and I am not ashamed to admit I thought it was great.
Music is very much a part of my soul. I hate doing this, but some of my favorites are Big Star, Mazzy Star, Ryan Adams, Rilo Kiley, The Old 97s, The Byrds... I grew up listening to a lot of oldies, so Beatles/Stones/etc. of course. Oh, Dylan, definitely. Just good blues, old/good country (Hank, Johnny, Loretta), folk, and rock and roll. I like a quiet sad song as much as I love a driving song. It's really not about genre or era, but mantra. I like music that is honest.
Movies, off the top of my head: Welcome to the Dollhouse, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Lars and the Real Girl, The Station Agent, Easy Rider... I also love a good documentary--I even met Ken Burns once.
Some of my favorite movies: Me and You and Everyone We Know, October Sky, The Last Waltz, Easy Rider, Pay It Forward, Mr. Holland's Opus, October Sky, Garden State, Donnie Darko, Forrest Gump, Good Will Hunting, A Mighty Wind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, Waitress, I'm Not There
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Finishing my first marathon was a really emotional experience for me. That would have to be on the list. And getting to see some rock and roll artifacts in the hall of fame in Cleveland was pretty neat too.
