Overview
About Me
howdy, friends! my name is mary. i'm a nonbinary trans activist. i'm currently located in san antonio, tx, but am planning on moving in the near future. i live with my boyfriend and i have 2 cats officially, but i try to take care of all the neighborhood strays if i can. i love reading, learning, and The Great OutdoorsTM. i'm presently re-reading the harry potter series. i'm very busy but i would love to invite weary travelers into my home.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
i'm curious to meet people from around the world and to learn their regional histories and struggles. there's only so much i can learn from a book and i feel like my perspective is limited by my americanism. i don't want to parasitize people's worldviews, so in exchange for knowledge i open my home.
Interests
oh, are they myriad! of course i love animals, i'm infinitely curious about the human condition, i'm fairly heavily invested in unlearning racism, sexism, disableism, and so on. i love history and science, i especially love the history of science (objective truth doesn't exist). i love the delicacy and fragility of human existence and its simultaneous resilience and flexibility. i love riding my bike. i love my boyfriend, and i love building bonds of mutual interdependence. i believe that people are meant to love deeply and profoundly and i'm very concerned with the affectations of coldness that people build to protect themselves from disappointment. i think disappointment builds a better perspective. my other interests include writing, analysis, learning, learning, learning, board games, bored games, intimacy, intensity, art, love, plants and minerals, taxidermy, cooking, eating, protecting people and standing up for people and developing fluidity of thought.

Music, Movies, and Books
i listened to deftones for the first time in a long time yesterday and it was so euphoric. it brought me back to high school, which was a mixed bag. i love intensely emotional, dark, painful music, but i like it (usually) to be uplifting at the same time. triumph over pain is kind of my passion. see: chealsea wolfe, deftones, jarboe, neurosis, mariah carey, beyonce, nicki minaj's pinkprint album, ariel pink, big black, lou reed, jay reatard, magik markers.
movies? acid westerns, idk. i'm not a big fan of movies.
books: harry potter of course, i'm trying to read more works that weren't written by white men. i feel like "the classics" are fairly limited in style and substance. i'm currently reading the harry potter series, a book of essays critiquing the gay marriage movement (written by gay, queer, and trans folks; not conservatives!); and a short story collection called motherwit, by urmila pawar.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
i'm not here to dazzle people and fix the planet, i just came out to have a good time and i'm honestly feeling so inadequate right now... i think being unapologetically me and loving myself in a world that says i'm worthless is pretty amazing. i hope to share that experience with young people so they can learn self-love too.
