Music, Movies, and Books
Music:
I grew up riding a skateboard, so that made me get into punkrock, hardcore, heavy metal and classic rock. Besides that, I like hip hop, all kinds of black music, including jazz, blues, soul, reggae, dub, dancehall. The last 5 years made a great discover, getting into Brazilian popular culture, from Bossa Nova to Forró, including typical rhythms and grooves. I actually figured out that music is kinda about human expression at all. I just love it, and sometimes try to jam with my friends, it renews my soul.
Movies:
I like all kinds of movies, from Brazilian movies to African, European, Middle East ones. I try to not prefer one genre specifically, I tend to figure it out if there's a good story through that. Of course I like the ones that makes me think about life, about existence, about our purpose in life. But there's a moment that I want to laugh and have fun without that deep thoughts, watching even that stereotyped trashy hollywood yankee-canned-culture.
Books:
I like Ernest Hemingway's The old Man and the Sea, the book taught me get to know myself a little better, and try to figure out in life what this book means to myself. The essence of the story is the constant struggle of man against nature, disputing their survival, highlighting the importance not only of experience but also of luck and perseverance.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1) Biked 140km in my home state, stopping by each beach and having a good time alone.
2) Went by myself to Chapada dos Veadeiros, in the center of Brazil, 300km far from Brasilia, the capital of the nation. Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park is noted for its waterfalls. Those which range from 80 to 120 meters, an ancient plateau with an estimated age of 1.8 billion years, and listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you a little bit about my country, and tell you it's way beyond that they say on movies, or tv.
Brazil due to its continental dimensions is full of curious things. There's Amazon, in the north, big metropoles like São Paulo and waterfalls in the center and southeast, but also country life and gauchos on the south, close to Uruguay. There's a lot to see and lots of different people and behaviours in the same country. It's complex, that's why is so rich of culture. I was born here, and still trying to figure it out everyday.
That's my main philosophy: If you want to know a country, first off you have to know about the people. Get along with locals, ask what they have to say about their life. Explore nature, and discover things that movies, tour guides and books never say.
