About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live a life worth loving.

ABOUT ME

I'm a punk rocker at heart, though my style is not exclusive. I love making music with my band Pow Wow. We play punk jazz fusion. My friends are my family. I am a craft beer aficionado and a full time marijuana advocate. I am currently enrolled at Purdue University, where I serve as president of PUC NORML. I was a writer for our newspaper for about a year, during which time I received 2nd place in an in-state intermural journalism contest. I am active in our local punk scene and host shows in my basement. My current goal is to make it to law school next year in hopes of becoming an advocate for victims of the Drug War. I like to read, as I am an English major, so there's always good stuff on my shelf. Pretty laid back, self described anarchist and yes, I'll talk politics until the cows come home. I write poetry and miscellanious bursts of consciousness. I think we can get along.

PHILOSOPHY

"What is a poet? An unhappy person who conceals profound anguish in his heart but whose lips are so formed that as sighs and cries pass over them they sound like beautiful music."-Søren Kierkegaard

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Let folks stay, stay with folks. Not a lot of people have wanted to stay outside of Chicago and have no reason to come to Hammond, so interactions are small in number.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I traveled to NOLA for my first surf and it was a blast. A few months later I hosted a guy who flew in from Spain to meet some local artists. Had a huge meet up for Riot Fest 2013 through CS that was a smashing success. Denver CS didn't pull through for me though, neither did NYC, so I'm still skeptical about just how invested most peeps are. Like I said, not a lot of interest in stayin around the Lake County IN area, even though we are connected to Chicago via public trans. A few friends have hosted people sporadically throughout their time on CS and I've helped with accommodation.

Interests

I love music, I play many instruments including guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, ukelele, harmonica, etc. I also disc golf and bicycle regularly, and enjoy meeting new people in good settings. I also like to read and write poetry.

Music, Movies, and Books

really, anything that looks interesting. I like things with revolutionary/progressive messages, romantic imagery & style, and well reasoned beliefs. Big into poetry, particularly and recently traditional experimentalists like E.E. Cummings. Romantic Sci-fi noir with a twist of dark humor, movies books and music. World/Inferno Friendship Society, Demented Are Go, Dead Kennedys, Rupa & The April Fishes, GUN, Philip K. Dick, Ginsberg.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh man, it's hard to think of something on the spot. Alright, here's two:
There was this one time me and a few friends were outside bike riding around at night in this huge pack of night bikers. We were zipping around through some local business parking lots and out onto the street when all of a sudden, cherries and berries light up behind us. 3 of my friends had marijuana on them, me and another friend did not. in a really interesting moment of group cohesiveness, me and my friend with nothing hung back and let the cop tag us down while everyone else ran up ahead to ditch their shit. Another cop shows up, flags them down, they had enough time to throw their things unbeknownst to the police officers, and the officers go about their business of hassling us for biking at night because of this "string of burglaries" that apparently is always going on. The officer that pulled me and my friend back starts talking to us, asking us why we were there and so on and so forth, when he starts to search us. No real problems, besides his weak ass probable cause, and as he starts to give the ol' round the hips pat down, he asks us if we have anything "crotched or jocked", to which my friend replied "no way man". The officer then says, "well, what if i search you there? change anything now?", to which my friend replied "go nuts". The officer immediately stopped his search of us, walked away, and let us go after we uncontrollably started laughing at him.

I once witnessed a real world application of quantum mechanics utilized by my own brain!
Me and a friend were sitting in my room, kinda high, and we were smoking cigarettes. I had the ash tray on the bed, and i was lazily sprawled out watching Quantum Leap no less. As we were talking and lounging, i happened to stir around and knock my ashtray off my bed. Now, mind you, i bore no direct witness to its choice in gravitational orientation, other than i felt it knock on my elbow and heard it hit the ground. I asked my friend, who was laying on the ground, if he had seen it fall at all or even heard it. He replied he had not. Before either of us choose to investigate, i decided to explain to my friend how this is a form of the Schrodinger cat in the box thought experiment, and that technically, the only thing we can say we know for certain about the reality of the ashtray is that i had bumped it and at some point it spilled onto the ground. I proceeded to explain that, based on what we know about ashtrays, we would normally assume the cigarettes had spilled all over and made a mess, but that because we have no direct perception of the object in question, it is better to say it is both a mess and not a mess until we get up and look at it. I told him to believe there was no mess. We got up and took a look, and low and behold, every cigarette, save for one, had made it back in the ashtray. what made less sense to us than "oh what a coincidence" is that when we looked over, there was another lip to a box on the ground that should have ensured the contents of the ashtray wound up on my floor, and yet it didnt happen. not a single ash was found on the ground. just a cigarette butt and the little bit of ash left by its end. strange days

Teach, Learn, Share

Here's my one golden piece of advice: Don't live with your good friends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Several comfy couches are available. Would offer up downstairs L couch, that would give a degree of privacy. Part of the couch pulls out into a bed for two max, not sure which is comfier. Have several blankets and 2 guest pillows. Shower works, bathroom is shared in the main floor. Have a fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. No cable but have WiFi, basement TV works for DVDs. No washer or dryer, but are somewhat close to the laundromat. Public trans to Chicago is very close, South Shore line East Chicago stop. Cost is like $5.25 and it puts you right downtown.
