I grew up in sunny Yalta - the loveliest city on the Black Sea shore where Russian emperors built their palaces to escape the power routine. My friends say I'm crazy to leave Yalta for St. Peterburg - so unwelcome to newcomers - as they say. For better or for worse, I live in St. Petersburg and feel happy about my decision - the city is SO amazing that I can hardly imagine what would I be if it didn't happen to me 7 years ago.
I did my BA and MA in Art History but since I was always interested in the crossroads of arts and politics as well as social dimensions of art I am now doing my PhD in history.
Although I am occupied with the thoughts about my thesis most of the time, those who know me well, say I'm rather relaxed and laid back. I am not a man of big emotions but I am curious and I like this side of myself.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like the idea of sharing - goods, thoughts, emotions, whatever.. Sharing makes people more wealthy and mature. I believe every person you meet teaches you something, even if you think of the experience as a negative one. CS gets people mature.

Music, Movies, and Books
As a PhD student I have little time for fiction. I adore Russian literature, however! I also like Vian, Remarque, Maugham, Salinger, Hemingway and others, others...
Movies: Barry Lyndon (Stanley Kubrick), Rocco and His Brothers (Visconti), 8 1/2 (Fellini), Antonioni!!!, Fargo (Coen brothers), Love Actually (Curtis),... just SO many others!
Musik: there is no a certain type of music that I like/dislike in particular. My prefernces are changing so fast that I can hardly gues what's in my top at the moment). I'm a big fan of opera and trying to attend as many performances at Mariinsky and other theaters as I can.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I worked as an interpreter at an international adoption agency. I helped kids and their new parents to understand each other. This was the most rewarding job that i've ever done..
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach Russian and Ukrainian. I can also speak about social constructivism, arts, letters, relationships,... whatever!
There're always things you haven't even imagined you want to learn - it's people that make you want to improve.
