Experienced a sudden shift in life outlook some 3 years ago while finishing high school and holding a copy of Atlas Shrugged in his hands. Realised that being defined by the things he consumes, however artsy they may be, is bullshit. You are what you do, and nothing else. Fast forward 3 years later - has the same philosophy marked by one divergent insight : Atlas Shrugged is a horrible novel.

Also, for some reason, he talks about himself in third person.

I'll try to stay away from name-dropping and instead just try to outline what I'm looking for in them :

Music - of all arts, music is the one which can most easily bypass your conscious mind and reach your subconscious, where all the good stuff is. The best music is proof that there is more than just thought in this world. What I like the most : post-rock, idm, grunge, alternative, progressive metal/rock, ambient, hardcore punk, singer-songwriter.

Movies - there are many films that I appreciate, but the ones I love are just happy accidents in which the director managed to somehow take the dreams which I always forget upon awakening and to give them life : Before Sunrise, Lost in Translation, Upstream Color, Samsara, Rosemary's Baby, Cloud Atlas, etc.

Books - the land of ideas, thus the opposite of music. if the ideas are stimulating, the book is good : American Gods, The Wisdom of Insecurity, Foucault's Pendulum, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Invisibles, VALIS, Catch 22 etc.
