About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have too many to list! I am constantly on one mission or another, and seeing as to how they are all related to self-improvement, they never get fulfilled. There's always something to work on, there's always a flaw to fix.

ABOUT ME

I don't know myself that well. I am shy, though it may not seem like it. I am such an awkward duck haha. I like to talk though, and meeting new people is always an experience I welcome (so much for being shy eh).

I like learning about different religion and cultures. I love listening to people's stories as much as I enjoy sharing my own.

I warm up to people pretty quickly, especially if I'm comfortable around them.

I don't post many pictures here, most of it goes on Instagram. But then again I post more pictures of my cats than anything else, and I guess that says a lot about me :P

But if you like cats... instagram.com/najwaursilan

PHILOSOPHY

It's easier to be kind (not always, but we try).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I got to know about couchsurfing from a guy I met back when I volunteered at a local soup kitchen. He had with him a traveler he was hosting, and when I asked them how they got to know each other, I was introduced to couchsurfing and was given a brief idea on how it works. I liked what I heard, but it wasn't until a year later that I decided to set up an account for the fun of it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was a tourguide to two Germans I met through a friend. That was my first experience showing people around and sharing with them what little I know of my country, and it felt good and I was hooked.

I have since hosted one other traveler. It isn't easy for me to host nowadays, but I am definitely open to the idea of taking people to good places to eat, or fun spots to go to (waterfalls, horse riding, hiking). I have yet to surf, and look forward to the day when I finally get to.

Interests

I like nature, I like discussing about it, spending time in it and being surrounded by it, finding ways to make it better.

Also interested in theology and discussions on morality and humanity.

I also like to eat, having said that I think food counts as a valid interest (albeit a common one).

I am currently learning German, and I can hold basic conversation in German (expect tons of grammatical errors and nervous stutters) provided that I feel confident enough around you to do so. I am always interested in languages, whether it's one I'm already familiar with or not, so teach me a few phrases and I'll try to get the pronounciation just right. I'll try hard enough to remember them and sneak it into future conversations just to show off :P on second thought maybe I won't.

I am interested in learning about feelings and thoughts and emotions - I think it's interesting how different people function in different ways.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not much of a movie buff. But I do love a good horror movie. Nothing too gory or bloody though. I generally stay away from action movies. I also don't watch superhero movies (Spiderman, Ironman, X-Men, Superman, Batman, Catwoman... whatever -Man and -Woman one can think of). I don't watch romantic films and chick flicks either...

I sound like a boring person now don't I. Maybe I am.

With regards to music I like anything with a good bass to it. And this is embarrassing, but I know the words to 95% of the songs that are playing on the radio.

Books! Books I love. I love to read. I have quite a few favourites, but the ones really worth noting are:
1) The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver (I love her!)
2) A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
3) The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
4) Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
5) All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot
6) I also like Thomas Hardy's works

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

... I have not experienced enough. So nothing makes this list. At least not yet.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you hang out with me I can teach you some Malay.

I can give you a book as a parting gift (I have tons! I have a small room and I'm beginning to run out of space, so I'm always happy to give away books and matchmake titles to personalities, in hopes that the person would like the read I've chosen for them).

I can teach you a lot about cats. Probably some other animals too.

I can take you horse riding.

I can take you hiking! Though if you're a seasoned hiker I would most likely end up slowing you down.

I can introduce you to some of my favourite foods - and they're almost always cheap :)

Also I will always always always introduce you to a local friend or two (if you're up for it). The more the merrier!
