ABOUT ME

We are two friendly artists and teachers who enjoy meeting people and discovering new places. We have hosted many travelers and exchange students in our home on Vancouver Island. This summer we are traveling in Europe to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, to attend our son's graduation and see a lot of great art and architecture. We are curious about culture and ideas and enjoy good conversations. At ease traveling we adapt well to different house rules and are happy to clean up and help with chores.

PHILOSOPHY

We and I have had the good fortune to be able work both as artists and teachers. We have learned to live life at our own pace in regard to both our own needs of those around us. We enjoy life and this beautiful world we live in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have hosted many international travelers in our home over the years, both young and old. We are very hospitable and quite relaxed in the midst of our creative lives as artists. We would like to meet others in their homes and be able to connect with people from the areas we are visiting. We have quite a concern for the environment and social justice issues and often find ourselves in conversation with others about these and other areas.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We are a part of a vibrant community in our own home and naturally share it with whoever is visiting our home at the time. We are often involved in a variety of fund raising or environmental volunteer projects when we are at home. We love sharing the countryside and garden where we live.

Interests

We haven't had CouchSurfing experince specifically though we have had many great experiences with a variety of travellers before. This past year we have hosted about 11 people through the helpx website for numbers of weeks and months. We haven't had any undesirable experiences to date. The other interests we have that aren't yet mentioned are gardening, our lovely dog Sophie who I go walking in the woods with every day, cooking good food, hosting parties, learning languages,loving our kids, and always, always, making art. Music, Movies, and Books

Just the other day we saw 'Finding Eric' and loved it. Other favorites are "Shawshank Redemption", "Benny and June", "Chocolate". Sometimes we are incurable romantics. We loved "A Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Monsoon Wedding" We enjoy tons of different movies as long as they aren't too violent or stupid. Recent books that we have read are, "Here on Earth" and "The Social Animal"-both non-fiction. In the fiction category we have things like, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" and "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've learned to fly a single engine airplane, speak Japanese and French. I lived in Ghana as a child. Peter lived in New York City for 9 years as a young artist.

Teach, Learn, Share

We are happy to share in many areas- really whatever we know about. Of course art and making art. We are always interested in sharing about teaching, meditation, gardening, dancing, the environment and cooking. Interested in hearing renovation stories as we have a big old house that was quite a renovation project.
