About Me

I'm from Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. Right now, I work in swine production in Bækmarksbro, Denmark. After spending time raising pigs, I started exploring the world of alternative proteins and cultivated meat. My goal is to dive deeper into the science behind this field here in Denmark and eventually find ways to bring it to Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam.

Beyond cultivated meat, I have a deep love for music. I used to spend my younger years making music on my laptop, which led to my fascination with anything related to sound—rhythm, tempo, melody, harmony. Vietnamese musics, jazz, orchestral music, and hip-hop are some of my favorite genres.

I also enjoy cooking. If you surf at my place, you'll get to try some simple Vietnamese dishes, and of course, nước mắm (fish sauce)—a staple ingredient in almost every Vietnamese meal. Lately, I've been trying to master the art of properly stretching pizza dough.

Another thing I can share is some basic techniques in Arnis / Eskrima, a Filipino martial art that focuses on using hand-held objects as weapons. In training, we use sticks, but in real life, the techniques can be applied to knives, swords, umbrellas, beer bottles—even a smartphone. Basically, anything you can hold in your hand!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CS has given me new perspectives on life.

I’ve met people with incredible stories—like a Scottish guy who overcame drug and alcohol addiction and then spent eight years biking around Europe and traveling across Southeast Asia. Or a Japanese girl my age who, unlike her brother, didn’t want to endure Japan’s stressful work culture and instead moved to Kampala, Uganda, to work as a journalist and for an NGO.

Meeting people like them has humbled me, showing me how vast the world is and how much there is to learn. It has also taught me to respect others, regardless of their background, nationality, political or religous beliefs.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing—and most dangerous—thing I’ve ever done:
-----
In August 2023, I hopped onto a small fishing boat and spent 18 hours offshore with a crew in Vietnamese waters. That morning, while walking along a road on Phu Quy Island, I met a sailor and asked if I could join his boat that afternoon. To my surprise, he agreed.

Out at sea, the boat was tiny, the "WC" was the ocean, and dinner was whatever fish or squid we caught. That night, I saw the ocean in its rawest form—towering waves, an endless, pitch-black horizon, and the sheer danger of a sailor’s life. Watching the crew work under the moonlight, hauling up squid from the deep, I had one overwhelming realization: Mother Nature gives us everything, but she can just as easily take it all away
