About Me

I'm currently working as a Journalist and have a degree in Liberal Arts as well as English Literature. I've done a fair bit of travelling over the years, both within my country and outside of it. I enjoy reading, writing, travel, food, dogs, music and conversations that tell me stories. I like to get to know people, where they come from, where they plan to go, and what kind of life they've lived.

I believe everyone carries a story within them, and as someone who often feels a little out of place, I like to try and make other people feel at home.

I know you can't see any references or too many friends, but that's mostly because I live in India, and at home with my parents still, and so the only other time I got to use CouchSurfing was once two-years ago. I stayed with a lovely couple in Barcelona, and the experience was so enriching that I wish I could do this more. But with a job, slightly strict rules at home, and a lack of time, I am only able to resurface when I can take time off from a 13 hour daily shift.

Some fun facts about me, and I promise I am fun, well kinda, okay I try:
I prefer white wine (and pasta) over red wine
I am deathly afraid of large insects (I also think mosquitos are my arch nemesis).
I once burnt my hand because I wanted to check if the iron was hot, and the best way to do that was to press my entire palm against it. It was hot.
I think cows are just oversized and misshapen dogs, and are also my best friends.
I think naps and pillows are a few of the best things in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing because I believe that you can rarely experience the world the way it should be through the window of a hotel room. Find a home, a friend who knows their city, a couch that houses the stories of many travellers before you, and only then will you make a memory worth keeping. I want to meet interesting people, and find a road less travelled with people who are willing to travel it with me.

I want to experience a city from a local's point of view, and my philosophy is that a place is a lot like a person, you can only get to know it slowly and with patience. You have to walk around on foot, talk to the people who live there, and take the time and effort to reveal all the hidden parts of a place you might have otherwise missed.

Interests

Writing - I make sense of the world through words, translating sight, sound, and taste into ink on a page. I want to see as much of the world as I can, because I believe that life is rarely lived within your comfort zone, and that unknown side street with the cobblestoned floor and friendly fruit vendor, that's where the magic happens. My interests include reading, making lame jokes, eating all the time, writing poetry, attempting to adopt stray dogs, and drinking iced tea.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of alternative rock, indie folk, and progressive rock. I read fiction and I fall in love with characters and their stories. George Orwell, Arthur Miller are some of my favourite authors. I watch almost every kind of movie, but I always remember a good script.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have watched night turn to day, sitting on a mountain slope with eight strangers and a few of my friends. I have stolen bubble wrap from a home department store so that my friends and I could run back to our hostel in the pouring rain.
I've adopted a stray dog with her six puppies and tried to find each one of them a home.

It's difficult to categorise life into amazing moments, because I think a lot of beauty is overlooked in the everyday.
