About Me

Hello!

My profile here is set up for me (Nomi) but am currently travelling with my partner, Ryan, so we are sharing this page for now.

We are both English, from a small-ish town called Ipswich, where we met at Sixth Form but have spent the last 3 years studying and living away from home. Ryan lived in Sheffield which is the north of England and I went to my favourite city in the world - London. Our current trip across the States is to celebrate finishing our studies. Ryan studied Aerospace Engineering and I studied Literature with Creative Writing - very different to each other we know!

We have traveled to a lot of countries in Europe but this is our first time outside of the continent. I went on my first gap year when I was 18 and mostly used the website Workaway to travel around western Europe and then during University we took as many weekend trips and christmas holidays as we could afford.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are working our way across America. We flew to San Francisco and have been travelling East to get to New York in October.

Like most people we are on quite a budget, so that has meant that, with 2 of us, it is usually cheaper to buy 1 motel room than 2 beds in a hostel - meaning we haven't had much chance to meet other people so far (which is the whole point of travelling isn't it?). We signed up to couch surfing to remedy this as it seems like the perfect way to meet like-minded people and make some friends to share their knowledge and maybe a day out or two with us.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love old books. If I had to give it a specific genre I'd say Victorian Sci-Fi/Fantasy, particularly anything by HG Wells - The Time Machine is my absolute number 1.

If I'm reading a modern book, I always look out for Stephen King. I'm a big fan of horror so I love his classic stories and same goes for movies. When I'm not travelling, theres nothing better than a night in watching Horror Movie marathons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We spent Christmas 2015 in Iceland and it was all pretty amazing but swimming in the Blue Lagoon on Boxing Day was up there with one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life

What I Can Share with Hosts

We both worked for a VIP events company in London, so in addition to the travel stories we can trade with you, we also have a few good ones about some of the famous faces we have met (including some British faves like the Game of Thrones and Harry Potter casts) ... and yes, I have met the Queen, but no we didn't have tea together!

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, United States
