About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Back to school for midwifery, climbing whenever possible

ABOUT ME

Having been a classical musician all my life, I've felt a calling to change to a career more tangibly involved in helping people. Midwifery it is! School and work take up lots of time, but I'm intent on feeding my rock climbing addiction, and I'll always put off homework to meet good people.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. It's really simple.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had some amazing experiences through the site thus far, and I can't wait to see what further adventures await. My first trip sent me over to the west coast for just over a day to drink Chris's homebrew and bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. Later CS adventures found me on the Appalachian Trail for an overnight hike with a CouchSurfer I only met him the night before. It would seem that I have a knack for hosting cyclists pedaling around the country. CouchSurfing is fantastic.

Interests

Here's a random smattering: music, reading, Euro board games, vegetarianism, Yoga, language, cooking, sourdough breads, backpacking, bicycling, homebrewing, single malt whisky, chess, marriage equality, massage, card magic, travel, anything on/in a lake. Conversations with interesting people will make me broaden this list.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: There's Bach, and then there's everything else: Schnittke, Shostakovich, Mahler, Debussy, Chopin, Sweelinck, Brahms, the French clavecinistes... German pop (Klaus Hoffmann, die Prinzen), and should you ever be in the car with me, you'll likely hear me "singing" along to Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin, Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, and Dar Williams. Let's hope that doesn't happen. :)

Favorite books include: Maugham - The Razor's Edge, Ayn Rand - Atlas Shrugged, Robertson Davies - What's Bred in the Bone, all of Nigel Slater's cookbooks, and Ruth Reichl's books. Oh the Places You'll Go! has been on my nightstand for a while now and shows no signs of leaving.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Organ loft of Notre-Dame cathedral, Paris. Midnight. Alone. Silence alternating with the sound of the organ echoing in the cavernous acoustic until it fades into the blackness. That was cool.

Teach, Learn, Share

Steeped in classical music, I can sight read just about anything and would be thrilled to accompany any singers and/or instrumentalists. I'm also glad to use whatever massage skills I possess to repay kindness or ease travel stress. It seems like there are lots of good cooks in this community, but I'm sure I could share something in the kitchen.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Canada, Estonia, Italy, Mexico, Russian Federation, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
