About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning.

ABOUT ME

Curious, enthusiastic and playful. Many miles, books, bedtime stories and schemes behind me.

PHILOSOPHY

People are writing such inspiring, interesting things... what to say beyond nods to the Golden Rule and embracing difference? I'd say... hmmmm... how about... either Asada's or Kojin's "stepping sideways towards knowledge"? Or Uncle Karl's "we make history, but not necessarily under the conditions of our choosing"? Or Dylan's "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" and "there's no success like failure, and failure's no success at all"?

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sharing information and inspiration.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Grateful for everyone who put me up and more in many countries... and the friends who came through my life and home here, way before this darn internetz... we had stamps, envelopes, dreams...

Interests

Portaging. Food, justice, naps. I spend my time forever... elsewhere. Mostly. It's been a long time since I could pretend there was a difference between a "tourist" and a "traveller." One fine grey day in Shanghai it hit me that both have what them there photogenic locals don't have. Time. Airfare. Locals make no distinction. So, I'm still drawn to the road... but it's more complicated. Maybe more important. How to ethically travel without doing the post-colonial voyeur thing?

Music, Movies & Books

Etgar Keret, Aleksander Hemon, Sufjan Stevens, gamelan... I'm too old to identify with any particular music or wear it as a badge. Like small festivals, eclectic stuff from the heart. DIY always trumps consuming music.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

The birth of my kids. Cosmic crack. Nothing like it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Skiing? Pedagogy? Formal writing? Communication strategies for activists?

Geeesh. I dunno! What did the cheeseball book from my teen years say, you teach best what you most need to learn? :-)

Countries I've Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, Viet Nam

Countries I've Lived In

Canada, Japan, Singapore
