When you think you have a problem, find someone with a bigger problem, and help them. Then your problem may get smaller as you turn your attention away from it, and God/Allah may even sort it out...

That's my philosophy anyway. And so far, It seems to be working.....

When i get a chance I'll update this profile and make a link to my new one.

Hi I'm Natalie - I'm living in Palawan (Philippines) - one of the last wild places - with a local family who are helping me take care of my daughter who has intellectual disability. My life has totally changed in the last month since being here with her (I was here before for 6 weeks by myself) ... And being adopted into this family :-) Not only is the environment more stimulating and provides plenty of opportunity for interaction for her - but for me I can actually have the time to myself that I need/ have been needing in order to develop my self and start looking at ways I can develop more projects here (great need and opportunity here for CO-creation) to potentially be able to stay longer here. People here are so friendly and family-oriented; so present, kind, loving. I'm so blessed to be here.....

I see my daughter interacting much more with others, being INTERESTED in what's going on around her instead of just what's on her iPad. (Of course she had more opportunity to interact because there's more people around) - and actually doing things requested by others which saves me constantly repeating myself which was one of the things driving me insane with her care in Australia. She likes the other kids who are at a similar level and enjoy same sort of cartoons and stuff and is starting to follow their routine - which is nice for her because I can't live by routine. I don't know why - maybe from going to a private school and feeling suppressed as a kid. Who knows, but anyway....

So, these guys are helping me with my daughter, and I'm helping them to build a business (something that generates food and income) and also a house because what they have is Very basic and needs replacing (7 years old... Timber pole, palm roof ... Getting a bit wobbly.....) So yeah, far out, the least I can do is help build a house with the money I would be spending anyway in Australia just on living expenses, rent, etc..... Here I can build a house for a few thousand - and it's already their land, so it's just the structure. And, I'm interested in renewable materials, building with bamboo, learning traditional craftsmanship, working with local people, learning Tagalog.

.... I've moved to Bali at present to learn about bamboo preservation techniques and building.

I believe in sharing and acceptance and enriching the tapestry of Wonderful Creation.

I'm fairly quiet person but can get loud at times too. I enjoy deep conversations and find out about other sustainable projects and what people are up to in their lives to make a difference!

I am interested in people who are UP TO STUFF! - I like to see people being able to pursue their dreams, convictions and aspirations. When i was 20 or so, there was no 'couchsurfing' - so i think of what could have helped me back then, and try to make that available for others.

Volunteered on the Earthship build in Philippines after Typhoon Yolanda/Hyan. Also, I woke up today. Nature in general amazes me. That I can open and close my hand amazes me. Ecology and ecosystems amaze me, speech and language amazes me, human movement, anatomy and physiology, the wonder of creation, my daughter, the tropics and nature -amazing!! Glory be to God! - Or whatever name or intellectual concept you understand Divine/Creation Intellegence to Be.
