About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Return the kindness that has been extended to me.

ABOUT ME

Well hello there.

So, I've hit the road! Over the next month and a bit I'll be making my way south from Vancouver/Vancouver Island to San Diego. I'm hoping to see some impressive trees (I am a forestry person after all!) and surf some decent waves. I'll also be visiting some university campuses and putting together my applications for grad school. Should be interesting trying to juggle all these things, but I'm sure everything will work out fine!

Anyway. Enough about my little adventure. Here are a few tid-bits of info about me:

- I'm a budding naturalist and love "plant hunting" for edible things in the woods
- I have a bit of experience rock climbing and white water kayaking
- I've fished my whole life, but have only just started fly-fishing
- I absolutely love to read
- I paint and create all kinds of crafty things
- I cook a mean vegetarian/vegan meal
- I have an addiction to watching "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" online
- I lived in Tofino, BC and got into surfing
- I've rowed and played rugby competitively and spent time on a Loggersports team
- I'm a total science nerd, especially in regards to biology and botany, but am hoping to get into hydrology/geomorphology!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, so good!

Interests

I've already mentioned a few, but am always willing to try new things. I often seem to find myself with unending creative ideas about what I can do with my time, whether those things be crafty or athletic. Needless to say, I rarely get bored.

Music, Movies, and Books

My musical interests are all over the place and a list of my favorite artists would be incredibly long. Basically, I don't like crappy music; by that I mean the mass produced top 40 type of crap. I'm a huge supporter of independently produced music, especially in British Columbia and, generally, across Canada.

Reading is one of my all time favorite past-times. I generally have, at least, two books on the go: one philosophical book and one "light read". Over the last few years I've really gotten in to reading seminal natural history books. Right now I'm juggling:

- "1493: Uncovering the new world Columbus created" by Charles C. Mann
-"Nature and other essays" by Ralph Waldo Emerson
-"Wars in the woods: The rise of ecological forestry in America" by Samuel P. Hays
-"The Last Testament: A memoir" by God (with David Javerbaum)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm still alive and kicking after who knows how many bad decisions.
