Guess what happens when you're getting housing from a temporary disability program, and find out you're permanently disabled? You lose your housing! And that's the story of how I became homeless for the winter.
About the duration: At some point in the who-knows-when future, I will either be approved for Social Security without having to start the process over from scratch -- very unlikely -- or will be rejected, at which point I'll be cycled back into housing; at that time, I either won't need to live with you anymore, or you and I might decide we want to remain roommates, at which point you might even start getting higher rent from me.
But for now (since New Years Day) I have only one couch-surfing arrangement with a dear friend who cannot legally let me stay here anywhere near as often as he does; so I'm on the street more than half the time. Crazy, since I can afford temporary housing, if I find it...
I smoke (both the regular tobaccy and wacky tobaccy) but am well versed in the arts of outside-smokfu. Although I'm disabled, I didn't know that for most of my life; and so, partially by habit, I do try to keep busy with my abilities; I'm a (very) struggling multi-discipline artish and techy, with a plan to make the story RPG computer game that the world is freshly begging for (albeit it's somewhat of a silent scream).
I'm open to a variety of situations; basically AirBNB, and traditional housing-search methods, are not working out, because people cancel your reservation if they figure out you're homeless. So any of the following would do:
- I need to rent your couch or spare bed, even if it's only available when you feel like it (certain days or hours)
- I understand if you can only let someone stay 3 nights a month or whatever due to your lease; each night of availability, helps
- Or if you need a bit of cash for the winter, and you're looking for a temporary roommate (max 3 months), I have a budget for that
- It's ok if you only feel comfortable doing this when you're there to supervise (within reason; basically don't take my money and then kick me out)
- I'm willing to fill out an app with your landlord but many landlords deny me for credit reasons, so I can't afford more than $10 app fee (due to risk of it being money down the toilet)
- I'm willing to pay a deposit and each month up front normally, given signed paperwork (I might bring a witness) that guarantees a refund of unused (prorated) rent if I'm kicked out
- Alternatively I'm willing to pay a higher nightly price than our agreed-to "normal" price, for a while, so that I'm paying the deposit incrementally while we figure out if this is going to work out
I want to emphasize that I'm basically healthy and have my needs taken care of except that I'm having trouble with the critical step of exchanging cash for a suitable place to sleep. I was a little slow to come here, however, so let's click Post and hopefully one or more of you will help to make it a good MLK day (or more to the point, a good Jan 16 thru April whateverish) :)
