About Me

CURRENTLY TRAVELING AND UNABLE TO HOST -- I'll start hosting as soon as I settle down somewhere :-)

I recently graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering and minor in computer science. I was born in South Carolina, spent my younger years in Kentucky, teenage years in northern Indiana, and college years in central Virginia.

I'm an entrepreneur and have started a number of small businesses over the years. Most have been spectacular failures, but as they say, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."

I love traveling and meeting new people. My favorite place to be is on a beach at the ocean. I love sunshine!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After graduating from college. I decided to shut down my hobby electronics retail business so I could travel. I started by setting off on a cross-country trip, driving from Virginia Beach, VA, to Los Angeles, CA (literally coast-to-coast!) with many stops along the way (including visiting the Grand Canyon). Once I arrived in California, I did some sightseeing (including Yosemite National Park) and spent quality time at some of the many great beaches for a few weeks.

I then headed off to Europe, flying from LAX to London. I only spent two days in the U.K. (mostly holed up in my hotel trying, and failing, to sleep) before heading to Montpellier France, where I was going to attend a three month intensive language course but then decided to postpone after arriving. Now I'm in Spain and am about to take a Spanish language course for a month, after which I'll probably have to leave the Schengen area since I don't have a long-stay visa (I'll probably head back to the U.K., but it's up in the air right now).

I'm new to couchsurfing, but you're welcome to check out my LinkedIn profile or friend me on facebook!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
-----------------
I listen to a LOT of music. I have tinnitus, so music is not only soothing to my soul, but also serves as background noise to drown out the incessant ringing in my ears.

Coldplay
Imagine Dragons
Bon Iver
Birdy
Christina Perri
Ellie Goulding
A Fine Frenzy
Florence + The Machine
Sia
Katy Perry (some of her songs, but definitely not all..)
Taylor Swift (later albums, not so much the earlier country ones)
Sara Bareilles
Skylar Grey
KT Tunstall
London Grammar
Of Monsters And Men
Howie Day
Oldies (70-80's) songs and bands, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Queen, The Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Lennon, Jefferson Airplane, etc. (basically anything EXCEPT disco! Never disco!)
Movie soundtracks (especially Hans Zimmer ones!)
... Basically anything other than disco and country.

Movies
-----------------
Like most people, I've wasted a fairly significant portion of my life watching movies and TV. Here are some of the good movies I've seen:

Into the Wild
The Notebook (kidding, lol!)
The Lord of The Rings (all three)
Star Wars (the old/good ones)
Back To The Future
Fight Club
Gladiator
The Patriot
Office Space
Guardians of the Galaxy
Letters from Iwo Jima
The Right Stuff
Batman Begins & The Dark Knight (third one is lame)
The Shawshank Redemption
Inception
V for Vendetta
The Matrix (first one)
Saving Private Ryan
Star Trek (some of the old ones, plus the 2009 one)
Good Will Hunting
12 Angry Men
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Rocky
Oblivion
Catch Me If You Can
Amélie
Moon
The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum
Serenity
Silver Linings Playbook
Ocean's Eleven
Jurassic Park
The Town
The Blind Side
Children of Men
Gran Torino
The King's Speech
Green Street Hooligans
Slumdog Millionaire
District 9
The Last Samurai
Dark City
The Fugitive
The Island
The Italian Job
Equilibrium
The Guardian
Stargate
The Next Three Days
Top Gun
Zombieland
Gravity
Heat
Taken
Million Dollar Baby
Garden State
Zoolander
Kingdom of Heaven
Minority Report
Rain Man
Rambo
Lord of War
The Departed
Blade Runner
Mission Impossible movies (except the second one)

Books
-----------------
I used to be a voracious reader, then college happened. I'm now trying to get back to reading a few books a month. I also sometimes listen to audiobooks when reading is impractical, such as when driving.

The Lord of The Rings
The Martian
Gone Girl
A Song of Ice and Fire (i.e. Game of Thrones)
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series
Nineteen Eighty Four
Catch Me If You Can
The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon
Steve Jobs
The Catcher in the Rye
Watership Down
Harry Potter (entire series)
The Bourne Identity
The Chronicles of Narnia
Looking For Alaska
The Fault in Our Stars
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
The hunger games (first book)
... To be continued.. I've read so many, it's hard to think of my favorites off the top of my head.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Why stop at one?

- I didn't watch any movies or TV in 2011 (started as a 21-day personal challenge, which I just kept extending!).

- I started and operated a hobby electronics retail company for three years while in college.

- I've driven from coast-to-coast in the U.S.

- I've visited the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park.

- I've traveled in France and Spain.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a critical thinker, intelligent, and enjoy engaging in stimulating conversations about pretty much anything. I love learning about people and hearing their stories. I'm very organized and tidy and will leave the couch/bed/whatever as clean or cleaner than when I found it! I'm very tech-savvy and can assist with any kind of technology problems. I can cook pretty decent breakfast food.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, England, France, Mexico, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In
