About Me

As I'm no longer a "Young Adult (18-25)", I spoke to my girlfriend and we decided that the most sensible thing to do was to sell everything we owned and travel the world until we figure out when/where we want to be real adults!

I've worked in Cafés, Bars, Pubs and Restaurants for 10 years now and I've decided to hang up my apron and follow my passions. Don't get me wrong, I'm passionate about food and drink, but from now on they will feature in the "My Interests" box and not the "Occupation" box.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love talking to people. Not just chit chat, but real conversations about things people are passionate about. Those are the conversations that keep me inspired and whilst I'm half the world away, I don't want to miss the opportunity to be inspired. This is why I've decided to join couchsurfing. Travelling's been great so far, but it's been all too common for us to be swept into a corner with all the other tourists whilst the real culture carries on in the background. I want to see what you see!!!

Interests

Music, Food and Drink (told you!), Trekking and Exploring, Music, Philosophy, Politics, Music, Spending time with friends, Festivals, Playing guitar (little rusty but playing once again), Did I mention I like Music??

To go into little more detail, my main inspiration for food is mixed European with a few Asian and South American influences (my first chef job was at a sushi bar!). As for drinks, it's all about coffee, whisky and British Ale. I could talk all day about these but we'll save that for when we meet. The highlight of trekking was the Annapurna circuit in the Nepali Himalayas. We walked 20km a day, went from 1300m to 5416m in 10 days, including a 2 day side trek to the highest lake in the world! (Tolicho Lake). My interest in Philosophy and Politics is inspired by all ideas and theories, this I believe is essential to developing a true understanding and respect for this crazy world. My favourite festival is Glastonbury and a close second is the much smaller and more personal atmosphere of Shambala, both in the UK. However, the next festival to attend will be the Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia with the added bonus of two of my closest friends travelling out to see us... Perfect. I used to love playing Guitar but for some reason it found itself collecting dust in my parents house. But with the gift of time, I'm playing once more :-)

Music, Movies, and Books

The 60s and 70s was the greatest era for music. I love everything that inspired it and everything inspired by it. With regards to modern music, if there's something about it that is truly unique and I haven't experienced before then send it to me. I love surprises - Any book that makes my mind bend (philosophy, mythology, abstract/revolutionary scientific theories, sociology, etc) - I'm not a huge film buff but a staple in my diet is Bruce Lee (In every form possible) and my favourite TV shows are probably, Dragonball Z (GT was a travesty), Breaking Bad (A worthy ride on the cultural bandwagon), X-Men (90s Cartoon Style), Flight of the Conchords (Comedy + Music = Gold) and Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington (Heroes of English Comedy)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm a Black Belt in Kyokushin Karate and have represented England in Tri-Nation competitions.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a trained chef and have left the restaurant behind in favour of a slower pace in a normal kitchen so we can have a few cooking sessions together. My guitar ability is such that I can help get you started on the basics. I can teach you some stuff about coffee, beer and whiskey. The most important lesson being the great conversations that follow 😀 I'd love to get some advice on some cool local music to pair with those drinks and chats too.
