ABOUT ME

I'm high energy and motivated, but often lacking something productive to do and the creativity to come up with something. I always have a song stuck in my head and I try to play the mandolin and the guitar... I'm not very good but that's the point in practicing. Movies are a rare event for me. Actually, so is staying in one place for longer than a few hours (unless I'm asleep). I like to always be on the move, unless I've found something (usually a person) that seriously keeps my attention. Conversation is my favorite activity... usually.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For the most part I host surfers. I've surfed a few times but rarely travel. As it is, hosting is highly enjoyable to me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started out couch surfing at friends' houses. Then I actually joined the website. Then I started hosting folks. My experience is modest as a host and almost nonexistent as a surfer (only once have I surfed since joining the site). Yet I feel like I pretty well understand the basic ins and outs of couch surfing.

兴趣

Teaching people, typically children, is something I love to do. I'm learning how to play the mandolin and guitar. I'm also attracted to ecology. "Adventure" is another aspect of my life. It's in quotes because I'm talking about hiking and backpacking. Those are the least adventurous of the adventures people like to take on for recreation. Then there's the obvious: simply being among people, among friends. Oh, there's one more new one. Learning spanish.

I listen to the Avett Brothers a lot. Other music similar to theirs I am exploring... But in all honesty, I get down to the top forty on a regular basis. There aren't many movies in my life but I really like these ones: Scott Pilgrim VS the World; Shrek (all of them); Warm Bodies; Pirates of the Caribean (all of them); and the stage performance of Into the Woods (the only movie I own). I also have a soft spot for Gone With the Wind and Love Actually.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

One: I climbed (walked up) the Mayan pyramids at Calakmul in a rain storm while listening to the thousands of frogs sing their mating chorus. I can't think of anything else that I could say left me awestruck.

I'm good at connecting with people and connecting people. Swing dancing used to be a hobby of mine and I'm always stoked to share what little I know. Lately Contra dancing has taken over for swing. That's hard to teach without a room full of people but I know some good Contras around the area. It turns out I'm also always looking for new songs to learn; short songs that are simple and pretty... One's you might hear at a campfire.
