About Me

Dearest visitors !

I am Nathanaël, a frenchguy living in the greatest place on earth: Tromsø! I experienced travelling before, so I know how it felt to get a lift, a chat, a place to stay, a shower and a meal without even asking anything. Since then, I was always eager to send the ball back to say thanks to all those great guys who made my trip a lifetime memories!

That's why my house is your house and I will be therefor so pleased to have you !

There is this unspoken rule in couchsurfing saying you have to cook something from your own country. I personnally don't give a damn as 90% of my food is coming from the dumpsters, plus I'm vegetarian, so good luck with that!;-) BUT, since I am working as sound guy, you will be asked to record a song, a poem or a story in your own language, wheather you are out of tune or drunk, it doesn't matter ! :) If you do not mention what you could record (and if you want to record), it will mean to me that you haven't read my profile so don't be surprised if I decline your request...

I felt in love with Tromsø so I'm not travelling anymore, but pretty well settled down, damn! :) I will try my very best to spend my time with you as much as I possibly can but you will also have to be independant as my schedule of freelancer is quite unstable...

If your life rime with tv, facebook and selfies, you might get really bored here...

Here is the type of request I get almost everyday:

"Hi! I'm an exchange student in Bergen, from Brazil, and I really want to see northern lights before I go back home. As Tromsø is known as a good place to see it, I'm planning to go there on March and stay for three days hunting those amazing lights! Before buy my tickets, I'm trying to find a place to stay and save some money, since the tickets + hostel are really expansive. That way, I will be glad if you could be my host there for those days. I'm a friendly person who likes to talk and share experiences. And of course, you'll have a place to stay in Bergen while I'm here!"

If you want to stay at my place, try to be a more creative than that because I kind of get really mad when I read this... This country, and specially Tromsø has much more to offer and I´ll be very pleased to show you what made me stay here! Just bear in mind that I'm not tour guide, taxi, a cyber cafe or Mother Theresa!

I only accept what the mainstream call "crazy" people. Those who have dreams and who chase them and who think about consequences afterwards. Those who wants to live life fully, who have faith into something, who have interesting projects, who want to check out places rather than googling them, to sum up, those who want to turn their life into an art masterpiece! I do not care about the latest youtube video I absolutely need to watch, I care of you and your stories that made you a better person.

All of that might give you the impression of me being rude, but I'm it's opposite, I just protect myself from dickheads... Event though I left uni a while ago, I would consider myself as a student of life, always learning more an more from other, and so from myself . Norwegians can´t find out why is my smile so wild in such a remote part of the world, too calm for argueing and too energetic to stay at home, arctic lover, cheese munsher, little yogi and ongoing learner!

I don't beleive in karma from one life to another, but I beleive in karma in this life. I know that if I do good to people, they will do good to me. My house is your, I would be grateful if you can respect it.

ABOUT MY PLACE:
I don't have a watch and I never plan anything. So last minute to a few days notice request are fine for me.
My housemate moved out with her boyfriend, so there is plenty of space. 2 couches, I have some mats and even her bedroom if she dares one day to clean out her stuffs...
15minutes bus from sentrum
I do yoga in the living room early morning, so that you know...

I look forward to host you!

Nathanaël

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I was travelling on my own, people always asked me: "But, aren´t you lonely?" and I always answered, "Well, I meet great people everyday, so I am never alone! Now I traded my tent against a fancy house, people asked me: "But is it not a bit too big for you, don´t you feel bored?" And I always replied: "Well, there is always space to host great people! ;)

I went from countries to countries to record original sounds from nature, cities, people and so on... Now I live here, I want you to come to my place to record your country! ;)

Interests

I had breathing issues since a very young age, I couldn´t find any way out until yoga came to my road in India. Since then, I became quickly addicted to this drug that I still take every morning and will be happy to help you feeling good!

I have a deep interest for nature, and it´s also the reason I decided to stay in Tromsø because everything here is just beautyness! Hiking and hitch-hiking from fjords to fjords during the midnight sun and snow shoes hike during polar nights!

I am a dumpster diver, which is more than something for saving cash, it´s an art of living, a second nature, a lifestyle, there is nothing like sharing a meal from it! Since I´m french, cuisine is in my genes, I became vegetarian due to health issues and after watching the documentary "Earth lings": If you really love meat and fish, well don´t watch it. But it didn´t stop me of enjoying good meal with people and learning new foreign cuisine!

But what really interest me in life most is you! I mix sound all day long in a 20meter squares soundproof studio with a computer and speakers as main furnitures. It´s the greatest job I ever had, but technologies don´t speak, they are even quite boring, shalow, and static, so what is better than meeting someone new? Who will give me more inputs to think about, will share me his/her travel stories, will make me laugh, wondered, dreamy, jealous, impressed or disappointed. So I made up my own proverb : "A day without meeting someone is a wasted day!" ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is my energy. It is on all the time and is everywhere, everything is music! But please, let me discover some new artists, I get sometimes bored of my playlist...

I HATE TV but I LOVE films! I like directors who put their main focus into storytelling rather than flowing emotions through tones of VFX and SFX, even though Star Wars is great! Dogma 95 would be a good exemple of the type of cinema I like watching, pure, simple with story that shakes your gut! Thomas Vinterberg and Lars Von Trier (not his latest works though) would be obviously my major figures. Then I quite like art house movies and I would be pleased to watch works from directors of your own country as well!

Since I spent 2 years on the road, so I´m really into adventure books, like this crazy french dude who hitch-hiked 400 000ks all over the globe, or those two roastbeef females who drove an indian Tuktuk all the way from India to France, those kind of things. Then Jack London is my hero of litterature with White fangs, The call of the wild, Martin Eden and so on...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling for two years with nothing but a backpack, a tent and a sound recorder across Australia, India, Scandinavia and Europe!

Sitting 10 and half hour per day for 10 days without eye contact, talking, reading and talking during a meditation retreat in India!

Camping in the toilets of a train station

Being naked on the top of Uluru´s mountain in central Australia

Teach, Learn, Share

How to swear in french and how to make french crêpes! ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

A warm shower, a fresh meal from the dumpster, a tchaï tea, a fire and some chill music in a chill house! ;)
