About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To create something interesting for dinner from the paltry ingredients in my cupboard.. I don't really do missions.
ABOUT ME
I like the earth a lot. I also like most people, at least on a one-to-one basis...I'm a little unimpressed with the angry mob.. I'm deeply concerned but I'm genuinely optimistic and i want to be a part of positive change in the world.. I enjoy learning and visiting new parts of the world more than just about anything.. apart from spending good times with good friends.. I am quiet (or I can be).. I like to walk through strange cities for hours and take photos or just watch and I like to sit by myself and drink wine and read books and I like to sit with others and drink wine and talk (or read books) and I like to drink wine from the bottle on my way to a party where I might stay until the day after tomorrow and I also like to drink green tea.
PHILOSOPHY
I don't think I have one of those yet and I'm not going to give you some cliche... I guess part of my philosophy would be that you always need to return to your philosophy to question it, that you mustn't be afraid to change your philosophy if it no longer works but that you should hold on to the principles behind it firmly but not so firmly that they restrict free thought.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted a couple of surfers when i lived in Edinburgh and shared a few tips over more than a few beers... In italy I had the benefit of a few friendly couches but mostly I went WOOFing and worked for my keep..
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
The two surfers I've hosted were both delightful, happy to explore the city alone but also to share a meal with all the flatmates where the conversation and the laughter flowed as freely as the wine.. I hope all guests are of the same quality and that I can be the same when it's someone else's couch that I'm surfing.
Interests
Also see above... I'm getting tired.. oh alright.. i'll make a relatively uninformative list very quickly.. books, photography, politics, activism, walking, music, philosophy, travelling, pasta, hats, football, myself, you, them, us, trees, animals.

Music, Movies, and Books
Tom Waits!!! Massive Attack!! Babylon Circus!! Horace Andy!!! Different Kinds at different times... Gypsy, reggae, African, blues, prog, trance, ambient, minimalist electronic, good rock, good hip hop, funk and jazz.. anything live played with passion and especially ingenuity..
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Mostly life itself is amazing.... I trekked the Annapurna in Nepal... was almost kidnapped in Kuala Lumpur.. road a motorbike for the first time in Bangalore... Too many to list.. I saw a small Indian child sharing what was probably one of the few treats (a gulab jamun) he had had in years with his brothers and sisters with absolute generosity... what is amazing exactly? I saw a snail once that looked pretty neat. A blue sky is amazing. In fact its amazing that there's a sky.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teaching learning and sharing is best done face to face.. But it is what its all about... I love a discussion that tests preconceptions and puts logic to the test.. I enjoy hearing alternative views no matter how controversial as long as there is a genuine willingness to accept they may be mistaken
