About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Currently i'm trying to figure out exactly what it is you're supposed to do after college, and enter the "real world"

ABOUT ME

My name is Rachel, i was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida so it's pretty much home to me. I'm a photographer, it's what i love more than anything. I am 22 and just graduated from college and have no idea what it is i'm supposed to do next. Had a strange epiphany where i realized that up until now my life was pretty well mapped out, i did what i knew i was supposed to. Now that the college step is over it's up to me what kind of life i lead. It's bizzare and liberating and terrifying and exciting all at the same time.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life because it was given to me. Someone or something thought i should exist so i'm trying to prove them/she/he/it right.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined this because a roommate of mine is a member and I have met some really great people already, before ever even getting involved. I would like to use this to get more connected to my own hometown and meet new people, but I will also be traveling more in the future and would like a network of people to help me learn about the places I go.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My roommate is a surfer and has hosted some great people. We've had a few dinners and sat down and just talked about the way we view the world and difference between our culture and theirs. It's really nice to compare even the smallest things with other people, you find out how closed off your own little world really is.

Music, Movies, and Books

This could pretty much go on all day. But kind of a top five off the top of my head.. Movies: Lord of the rings, Moulin Rouge, Shaun of the Dead, Across the Universe, Pulp Fiction .. Music: The Beatles, Muse, Coheed and Cambria, Johnny Cash, Jean-Yves Thibaudet.. Books: Thief of Always, Harry Potter (all 7), Lemony Snicket's, A Brave New World, The Walking Dead

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing i've ever seen is my nephew. He's two now and watching my sister through her pregnancy then him being born and slowly learning about his toes and fingers, then crawling, and walking, talking, now he tells me stories and leaves me voicemails.. it is incredible to see life being created and developed at such a fast pace. He is a miracle.

Teach, Learn, Share

Okay well I can teach you the bare bones of how photography works. Basically the photograph is created by the cooperation of three main controls: ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed. ISO is basically the sensitivity to light and its measure as a number from 100-1600. The higher the number the more sensitive it is. Aperture is the size of the opening of the lens, where the light is coming in. It is measured as "f-stop" and the range depends on the camera. The shutter speed is how long the photograph is exposed for and is measured in fractions of a second up to whole seconds.

If that all makes sense to you then its just different combinations of those three things that make the photograph. If the ISO is set to 1600 then your aperture can be smaller to let in less light, because it is extra sensitive. And if the Aperture is smaller then the shutter speed might need to be a little longer to let the light expose longer, since not that much is coming in.. make sense??
