About Me

Hi! I’m Nefer! I’m a Mexican PhD student currently living in Ottawa. I’m friendly, independent, and always happy to share stories and experiences with new people. I’m a big pet lover, so if you have animals at home, that’s a plus for me! I really enjoy starting the day with a good cup of coffee and good company. I’m not vegetarian, but I don’t eat beef. I’m also very respectful, clean, and considerate of other people’s spaces.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I love the idea of connecting with people beyond the usual tourist experience. For me, traveling is about sharing stories, learning from different cultures, and building genuine connections. As a student living abroad, I know how meaningful it can be to find kindness and hospitality in new places, and I’d like to both experience and offer that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
I mainly enjoy rock—classic, alternative, and everything in between. I’m always up for discovering new bands.

Movies
I’m a fan of horror movies, especially ones that keep you on the edge of your seat. Thrillers and suspense films are also right up my alley.

Books
As a PhD student, I read a lot of academic material, but for fun, I enjoy novels or mystery books that transport me somewhere new.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent two years working on an archipelago in the Gulf of California, a protected natural area, where I had some of the most incredible experiences of my life. I free-dived among massive schools of fish, became friends with local sea lions who wouldn’t let me leave without a hug, and even swam alongside orcas. Living so close to nature every day was unforgettable.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love exploring nature and spending time outdoors, whether it’s snorkeling, free diving, or just enjoying a beautiful landscape. I’m passionate about animals and the environment, and I enjoy learning about wildlife wherever I go. I’m also a big fan of rock music, horror movies, and getting lost in a good book. I love connecting sharing stories and discovering new cultures.

What I Can Share with Hosts

-Friendly and respectful company—someone who loves sharing stories and learning about new cultures.
-Help around the house if needed; I’m clean, considerate, and very tidy.
-Cultural exchange—sharing Mexican traditions, cooking tips, or favorite recipes.
-Fun conversations about science, nature, travel, or movies (especially horror!).
-Pet-friendly vibes—I love animals and will happily interact with yours.
-A curious and independent traveler who appreciates the hospitality and wants to make it meaningful
