Iceland trip specific: One thing we’d really enjoy while in Iceland is visiting a local swimming pool or hot pot with someone who knows the area. If any locals would like to join us, we’d love the company.

My wife, Betty Anne, and I love to travel and meet new people. What we enjoy most is immersing ourselves in local culture rather than just being tourists. Sitting in a pub or café chatting with locals can be just as memorable for us as visiting a famous attraction.

Life has given us a couple of reminders that it’s meant to be lived. Betty Anne is a cancer survivor (Sept 2016), and more recently I went through open heart surgery (Feb 2026). Experiences like that have reinforced our desire to see more of the world, meet interesting people, and appreciate the moments along the way.

We’re both easygoing, curious about people and places, and always interested in hearing stories about where you live and what makes your part of the world unique.

We are both non-smokers, do not use drugs, and are very neat, tidy, and respectful of other people’s homes and schedules. We embrace the Couchsurfing philosophy, enjoy spending time with hosts when possible, never show up empty-handed, and are always happy to help with meals or clean-up.

We have also recently embraced being naturists, especially in warm climates or while swimming, and are comfortable with that lifestyle.

To meet new people in new places, try new things, and have adventures that are a little off the beaten path. For us, travel is really about the people we meet along the way.

Some of our best travel memories have come from conversations over coffee, a drink at a local pub, or sharing stories around a kitchen table. Couchsurfing feels like the perfect way to experience places through the people who actually live there rather than just seeing them as tourists.

Life is short, and we’re making the most of it by exploring the world and connecting with interesting people wherever we go.

We are interested in almost everything - we currently canoe, hike, kayak, dog-sled, bike, swim, snorkel, fish, white water raft, body surf, hang-glide and want to parachute, hot air ballon ride, walk on as many beaches as possible and see an many waterfalls as we can. We love to find hidden places, waterfalls and natural hot springs.

Good conversation, travel stories, and a genuine interest in learning about your part of the world.

We enjoy hearing about people’s lives, cultures, and experiences, and we’re always happy to share stories from our own travels and adventures as well. Some of our favourite moments while travelling have come from simply sitting around a table or in a pub talking about life and the places we’ve all been.

We’re also happy to help out where we can — cooking a meal together, helping with dishes, or pitching in with small things around the house. We’re just as happy spending an evening chatting with our hosts as we are heading out exploring during the day.

Mostly, we try to bring a relaxed, positive attitude and an appreciation for the opportunity to meet interesting people and make new friends around the world.
