About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be happy, to meet new friends and to uncover those secret hidden places in the world

ABOUT ME

I think they would say I'm quite chilled out, easy going, go with the flow. Happy to do most things and go most places. Up for a laugh but also like my quiet time. Not the one for being centre of attention but like to be around people and make new friends and hopefully make them laugh a little. I try not to be too serious and I try to find the humour when I can but I will have a good debate about something if I feel passionately about it. I think I'm a good listener and will try to help or offer advice where I can. Difficult to talk about yourself in this way!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy has definitely changed over the years but I think I'm finally there! My main aim is to be happy (no surprises there ;-)) and enjoy my life, try to do as much as I can and experience all that life and this world has to offer. I was getting bogged down with day to day living in the UK, paying bills, fitting into the system. It's difficult to break from the system but I'm giving it a go for now and see how it goes. I'm not much of a planner, I tend to find plans rarely work out how you want so I'm happy for things to take their course and more often than not it surprises you and the unexpected happens!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only been travelling since November and most of that was already organised so I've not had chance to participate yet but I hope that will change very soon!

Interests

Love my music, I have my whole collection with me on my iPod so I'm never without. I love being out in nature, doing walks and other activities. I love cycling, watching and doing! I like the occasional adrenalin pumping activity, although I might be a bit reluctant at first. And general socialising, if there's a pool table or dartboard in the pub I'll be having a good game on that! I like a bit of reading but wouldn't say I'm a bookworm. I try my hand at photography but would say my best photos are more luck than judgement, but I enjoy it and its a great feeling when you do get that lucky shot! And as above, I'm happy to try new things and maybe find that new interest!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is an endless list of everything but my main bands are: New order, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, Toots & The Maytals, Little Dragon, Editors, Radiohead, Maccabees, LCD Soundsystem, Django Django, Kraftwerk, Billie Holliday, Lalo Schiffrin... the list goes on, anything that is good! ;-)
Books, I'm not a massive reader but here's a few I've enjoyed: Marching Powder, Million Little Pieces, My Friend Leonard, I'm currently reading Shantaram which is turning out to be very good. I also like music biographies.
Films, I don't watch a huge amount of films but again her are a few favourites: Shawshank Redemption, City of God, In Bruges, Superfly, Factory Girl etc

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to DJ for a living and I've travelled around the world doing it but one of my best gigs was actually in Newcastle, UK. And after the set the 2000 strong crowd just kept on clapping and shouting for more and wouldn't let me finish, that was unforgettable!

Doing a Bungee Jump in Greece over a swimming pool was pretty good, that feeling of falling has never left me and I spent the rest of my holiday boring my friends about how good it was.

Living in Hong Kong was excellent, again this was through DJ'ing, I managed to get a 3 month residency which was extended for another 3 months at a club right in the centre of HK island. My apartment was also in the main area of HK island so I was right in the hustle and bustle of Hong kong. The whole experience has eventually spurred me on to go travelling, which I am currently doing right now.

Teach, Learn, Share

I consider myself to be quite practical as I am a Carpenter by trade, I also used to DJ for a living so that might be of some benefit to someone? I am currently in South America and my Spanish is not the best, learning more Spanish would be of great help and also one of my goals to speak another language! I'm sure I have more to offer but sometimes it's not apparent until you meet someone who can benefit from a particular knowledge or skill. I can do the Rubik's cube if anyone is interested in that!? ;-)
