Hey I'm Nevatha! This year I received a travelling fellowship which allows me to visit different countries to learn more about my topic of interest (message me to find out more about my project!). While I am researching, I also want to explore surrounding regions, learn about different cultures, and meet local people. Right now, I am in Hong Kong.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think couchsurfing is a great way to make new friends and meet local people, which creates a more unique travel experience. When I return to America at the end of the year, I would also like to meet new people through couchsurfing by hosting them in my home!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a eclectic taste in music, and I am always open to listening to new things. I love to watch movies and I have seen so many, that it is difficult to chose. Some of my all time favorites include Strictly Ballroom, Aristocats, Legally Blonde, and Mulan. I love to watch British period drams, and enjoy reading nineteenth century British literature. I also watch and enjoy Bollywood, French, Tamil, and Korean movies. I have not had a chance to read as much fiction as I would like in the past few years because I have been so busy with readings for school, but because of that, I have grown to enjoy reading ethnographies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently had Korean BBQ for the first time and it was truly an amazing experience.

On a more serious note, travelling around the world this year without going home and pursuing my project is an amazing experience. As an anthro major in college, I would always read small vignettes about different cultures and peoples, but having the opportunity to see and experience new places in real life is incredible.
