Asian male born in Vietnam, bred in both Vietnam and Singapore. I am curious and open-minded, and having grown up in two different places and traveled to many more I of course love meeting new people from all over the world.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I am strongly against skin-deep tourism - i.e. going somewhere just for the sake of seeing it, without learning anything about the land or the history or the people there. The more I travel, the more I realize that one of the best experiences one could get while traveling is interacting with the local people and learning about their culture. With couchsurfing, this is made possible - at the same time, I believe that friendships for life can be forged. In return, I can also offer my travel experiences and host people in Vietnam / Singapore (provisional as I do still have school). I am very proud of both the best and the worst of my two homes, and would be very happy to share them with you all :)

兴趣

I love philosophy (epistemology in particular), reading novels / poems (sometimes I write my own), listening to music, watching movies, etc. - the usual hobbies. I also like to draw and have dabbled in different media such as coal drawing. Interesting, out-of-this-world activities also draw me in - think bungee jumping, shark cage diving, cliff paragliding! I'm also an animal lover and have volunteered at an animal shelter before... I'm generally a very curious person so I have a lot of different interests.

In my free time in school term, I also try to do pro bono / community service work.

Despite the above, I'm not a hard-to-please person. Just a simple evening chilling with friends and grooving to good live music is all I need sometimes!

Current favourite artists: James Bay, Passenger, Of Monster and Men. I like duets, and songs with poetic lyrics. Genres vary but generally I like pop / rock / country / folks / alternative.

Favourite movies: 3 Idiots, I am Sam, Inception, Forrest Gump. Do anime count? Tokyo Ghoul, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks, Fate/Zero, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, etc.

Favourite books: there are many, but 2 recent ones are The Narrow Road to the Deep North (Richard Flanagan) and The Sense of an Ending (Julian Barnes). I like reading books that are deeply reflective and philosophical or at least thought-provoking (if a book doesn't change anything in you after reading, it's probably not a good book).

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I went to South Africa in summer 2014 (it was winter there) for more than a month of community service cum summer school. It was THE experience of a lifetime - I got to visit safaris, bungee jump, dive with sharks, etc. during the weekends, and teach kids ranging from 10 to 20 years old during the weekdays - all the while forging lasting friendships with people from all over the world.

I am interested in learning new things - and not very particular about the exact details, although I do lean towards food and fun activities (e.g. horse-riding, surfing, etc.). I think life is too short and the world is too small to be choosy about what you learn!

I can teach you Vietnamese, writing tips (writing is my trade since I'm a law student), drawing tips, travel tips especially to Singapore and Vietnam, maybe even poetry and philosophy? Happy to explore!

I can cook you simple Vietnamese /Singaporean dishes, share with you my travel stories, and talk about anything under the sun really! I'm looking to make long-lasting friendships and not just touch-and-go acquaintances, so will be very happy to share whatever I can :)
