Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing because I don't want to just take trips and merely get selfies and trinkets in return. I want to learn something from the place, and I think that meeting up with locals is the best way to do that.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Russian novels - probs Anna Karenina is my favorite novel, though I hope that one day I'll understand The Brothers Karamazov enough to make a judgement. No super favorite movies come to mind, but I guess my taste in movies are similar to my taste in books. A bit dramatic.

My music tastes keep on changing - Regina Spektor, Sufjan Stevens, and Kishi Bashi are pretty much constants though. Since going to the Strawberry Music Festival a few weeks ago, I've gotten really into 二手玫瑰 and 苏阳.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walked on railroad tracks in the dead of winter in the middle of the night
Helped run a summer camp for English majors at Jishou Normal College, Hunan
Taken a 24 hour hard-seat train ride in Mainland China

Teach, Learn, Share

I was a sociology major in college, and will be starting my Ph.D in sociology this fall, so I would definitely say that this lens shapes how I view the world. If you're interested, I'd love to share that with you. But, as an introvert, I also enjoy (perhaps prefer) listening. So I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'm a big believer in deep connections, and I wouldn't be on this website if I did not sincerely want to share a deep, albeit brief, time in our lives getting to know each other. Yes, I am an English-speaking foreigner, and I am happy to share my thoughts, ideas, and native language.
