About Me
INTRO
Hello! My name is Nick, and this is my profile. I'm a mid-twenties traveler and programmer. There's a bit more emphasis on the programming these days, but I'm looking forward to a year of travel in the near future. It's nice to meet you!
PREVIOUS MISSION
Project Rurouni -- To Walk, Wander, Learn, Improve, and Experience
I wandered around the United States for a year, hitchhiking, train hopping, and walking my way towards nowhere in particular, living out of a backpack and sleeping in small patches of forest. I lived on less than ten dollars per day, trading an excess of money for an excess of time. I used that excess of time to engage with life in ways that are meaningful to me: studying guitar in the forests of Florida, wandering the deserts of the Mojave, and searching for beauty in the nooks and crannies of America.
CURRENT MISSION
Project Indy-- To Live Conventionally and Develop Technical Technique
I was given a tremendous opportunity to put the programming skills I developed as a kid to the test in a real business environment. My long time entrepreneurial partner, and friend, invited me to take a real job in Indianapolis, IN as part of a programming architecture team. I plan to hold it for a full year, ending in July of 2016.
FUTURE MISSION
Project TBD
I've been lucky enough to make a good salary for the past few months, but I've found that working full time in any traditional capacity just isn't for me. I'm too hungry to explore life; find the odder paths, work on other things. I plan to leverage what I learned from Project Rurouni, living cheaply and living well, and take that out of country for a year or so. Later this year, to Nicaragua I go!
ABOUT ME
I'm friendly, minimalist, and nerdy. I like technical gadgetry, finding efficient ways to do neat things, looking at art, walking through nature, and exploring new places.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
WHY COUCHSURFING
It's just so much more interesting to couch surf than it is to stay at a hotel, or even an AirBnB. You meet great people who are already in the perfect frame of mind to really show you where you're staying and really talk to you about why they like it. The reason I like to couchsurf instead of hotel is the same reason I hitchike instead of bus.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm still new to this specific community, but I've given some and received much hospitality around the United States. I didn't have much, but I shared what I had. A tent, a meal, a phone. And I was given so much more back: couches, gear, sandwiches, and stories.
