I am a 20-year-old college student from the state of Minnesota in the United States. I am studying abroad in Salzburg a the University of Salzburg from September to December and am new to Couchsurfing. I hope to receive an excellent education, not just in the class, but from the culture and the people in the countries that I will travel. I am traveling before classes begin and hope to soak in as much local culture as I can. I am also post-traveling. I am looking forward to getting to know the people in each place I visit to gain a new perspective on life hopefully. I also hope to develop significant relationships that will last a lifetime.

I am Couchsurfing because I want to meet, know, and interact with locals in each place I visit. I do not want to be a tourist; I want to experience the life in which the locals live. To me, traveling is about seeing the architecture and landscape that is different than my home, but to me, the most important aspect of traveling is getting to know the people who live in places to where so many flocks. I believe that people are universally good, no matter what religion, culture or community they come from. Couchsurfing would permit me the opportunity to authentically see the lives of people who live in the places I am traveling.

Last May I went to New York City for the first time. I went to a Broadway show, went on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, met a famous actress, saw the 9/11 memorial, toured the U.N. and met with lawyers. It was quite the trip!
