About Me

Fifty-five year old widow, I lost my soulmate, the true love of my life, just over four years ago now, to a sudden illness. After floundering for the past few years, I am working to regain my footing & learn to live in this new reality I find myself in. I would like to do some traveling, both for the pure fun of it, and also to 'get out of my shell' a little bit, to stretch my wings & remind myself that I am a strong capable person, and that I'm not too old to still find adventure!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Over the past couple years, I realize that I have withdrawn too much, and need to "get out" among others more often. I am somewhat of an introvert by nature, so this isn't always easy for me, but I still yearn to spend some time with other people & maybe even get to know a few new friends! I think that this means of travel would be a wonderful way to do that, rather than isolating myself in a hotel room, although that would be the "easy" thing to do sometimes, I admit meeting new people can be a little scary for me at this time! But sometimes the greatest joys in life come when we can conquer our fears & take that first step into the unknown!

Interests

I love crafts of all sorts! I've dabbled a bit in a great many different types of craft work. My favorite is probably crochet, especially making little crocheted animals. I also enjoy making quilts, doing pretty pictures & designs with my embroidery machine, heck - I even picked up some old macrame books recently & did a macrame frog again! I remember enjoying that, back in the day when it was so popular! I'm starting to spend more time outdoors again - I've got some back problems that prevent me from doing *serious* hard-core hiking these days, but I still enjoy taking nice leisurely walks through the woods, or at beautiful parks, or at the beach. I'm currently trying to get together some camping gear to start car camping at some of the lovely state parks we have here in Florida

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie at this time is "What Dreams May Come". It is an excellent movie, but I have a particular fondness for it over the past few years, as the intense closeness & love shared by couple in the movie remind me so much of my late husband & I.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've ever done is to marry the sweetest most wonderful man in the universe!! Sadly, he was taken away from me far too soon. Amazing things... hmmmm. I did learn to fly a small plane, I learned to scuba dive. Unfortunately, that was many many years ago, and due to various life circumstances at the time, I was unable to keep up with those skills, so I no longer have a license/certification. When I was 19, I "ran away" with the carnival for a while - yes, I was a "carnie"! I think that probably qualifies more as a "crazy thing" than an amazing thing though! Haha!

Teach, Learn, Share

After reading some other profiles here, I feel as if I'm perhaps a bit boring compared to all of those who have traveled all over the world, experienced so many different things & have so much to share! But I'm willing to share whatever I can!

Learning - I would simply like to learn more about other people, and other cultures, beyond the hype that the "tourist guides" tell you. I want to meet real people & see real life.
