ABOUT ME

I love adventure. I love going wherever the open road takes me, making friends along the way, and having awesome random experiences to one day tell my grandchilden about. I'm a happy-go-lucky guy, and appreciate the simple things in life. A sunny day, helping a stranger, or just grabbin a quick nap in the sun.

This approach has seen me help a Bhuddist Monk in Africa out with some legal problems he was having, staying in a Catholic Monastery in the hills outside of San Merino, and running a marathon in Berlin. From August 2013, it's going to take me on a cycling adventure from London to Sicily.

New Zealand is my original home - I left in 2011 in search of new challenges, and have been living in Scotland and London for the past two years. I love New Zealand for the warm people and all the outdoor activities the can be enjoyed there. If you havn't been, you have to come visit!

Meeting people from different perspectives, and learning about their cultures and customs, and energizes me! I LOVE CYCLING, and have also enjoyed yoga and meditation in the past. I believe there's a strong link between a healthy mind and a healthy body. I'm not really any strict religion, but I've attended lectures by the Dalai Llama, and believe we could all learn from this teachings about peace and happiness.

I love food (especially food from a a street stall, or my mother's kitchen!), and enjoy cookng and sharing meals friends. Coffee too - huge fan. I'm not a vegetarian, but I like lots of vegetaian dishes. I love the outdoors and would like to work for an environmental NGO in the future. I'm curious, respectful and sincere, and have a passion for learning. I'm an environmental lawyer and mediator.

I'm relaxed, chilled out, and like to go with the flow. It's a huge world out there full of interesting people - we should have as much fun as possible exploring it!

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Go gently. Trust others, as everyone is intrinsically a good person in their heart.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've contributed to fantastic CS get-togethers in Scotland, London, and New Zealand - and try to host whenever I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couch-surfing has been good to me. Through hosting and surfing, I've made friends from around the world, and learnt much more about different cultures, perspectives, and values, then I ever could by staying in a hostel.

Centres d'intérêt

Hockey , running, cycling, squash, tennis. Exploring and comparing the world's vast array of different religions. Bus driving. Trying to play golf! Traveling India - a fascinating and so incredibly diverse country.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

My tastes are varied - I enjoy classical piano (Ludovico Einaudi) as much I enjoy American HipHop (Jay-z/J.Cole). I also really like soul, jazz, and easy listening. There's a perfect soundtrack for every moment!

Most recently, my favorite types of books have been about cycling or adventure, self-improvement (eg Seth Goodwin , Tim Ferris, Paulo Costello) or political theory (George Orwell, Aldous Huxley). I also enjoy science writing (New Scientist Magazine, Malcolm Gladwell), and occasionally the Economist.

I don't watch as many movies as I'd like to, but really enjoyed the last Batman series. One day I'd like to watch the box sets to The Sopranos.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

When I was a tour guide and bus driver around New Zealand, I took my 65 year old mother on one tour, and sky-dived out of a plane with her 18,000 ft above a mountain range. It was an incredible experience; I was so happy to be able to talk my Mum into doing it with me, and to share such a life-affirming experience with her!
