Have new adventures, meet friendly people, and write/create about it along the way
I just finished working as an artist in residence in small town Saskatchewan and now am embarking on a road trip from Edmonton to New Mexico to do research for a play I'm writing. This will be my first time couch surfing and I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and spending some time on the road.
I'm from Edmonton originally, but contemplating moving to a bigger center to pursue writing in the near future and also looking for ways to travel and work abroad.
Some trips that I've done include traveling from Edmonton to PEI and back by bus, studying abroad in Italy, and backpacking in Ireland, and of course, lots of camping in the Rocky Mountains! I'm looking forward to more adventures ahead.
I like to create wherever I go, whether its through writing, theatre, murals of trees, or homemade cards.
Mottos I by are: Live responsibly and sustainably. Practice gratitude and honesty. Remember life happens in cycles. Be present!
I want to learn how to go with the flow more in my life and find ways that I can contribute to my community by being mindful of the ways I interact with others, finding opportunities to help where I can and also learn from the people around me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
This is my first time couch surfing. My brother and his friend did a big hitch hiking trip a couple years ago and had a great time surfing so I thought I would try it out.
Since I'm in transit right now and I don't have my own place but I'm looking forward to hosting some day in the future.
None yet! But hearing about my brother's adventures I really like the idea of people opening their homes to other people as a great way to explore a new city and get to know fellow adventurer-ers.
Hanging out with my family and friends, reading, writing, making art, hiking, spending time outdoors reading more, teaching, spirituality, eating good food, exploring new places, drinking coffee, picking flowers
- performing arts
- outdoor activities
- adventure races
Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a huge Miriam Toews fan at the moment. Margaret Atwood, JD Salinger, Roddy Doyle, Barbara Gowdy come to mind.
I spent a fair amount of my off time in Saskatchewan watching the Six Feet Under series and loved it. Amelie has been my all time favorite movie for a long time, but I think its time for a new one, I've watched it so many times. Anything by Wes Anderson!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The stars from Bryce Canyon, Utah- amazing!
Performing a clown turn for a gym full of kindergarten-Grade 12 students was one of the most exhilarating moments of my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
Things I would like to learn more about include cooking, gardening, more sustainable ways of managing a house (composting, grey water use) interior decorating. Outdoors activities including hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking. Any kind of art, especially visual art.
Things I can teach are most things related to play creation and development, creative writing, performance skills, body awareness when it comes to stretching/alignment, mask-making, clowning, event facilitation, administrative writing. I could also tell you a lot about your astrological sign.
I also really enjoy painting murals of trees. If you'd like one in your house let me know :)
