I am serious, and I am determined, but I take life lightly. Each moment is precious, I revel in both joy and in sorrow, and tend to love it all.

I am a scientist, an engineer, and mechanic. I am a teacher, a mentor, and a student. I dreamer, and a doer.

Sometimes I feel that life is all directed. My will is integral to the narrative, but in the end somehow, seemingly unrelated and unmovable pieces far bigger than my grasp fall together like a puzzle as if the whole world had conspired in its design.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been hosting and surfing for several years now. Lately, I've started to surf when I travel for work. When I'm in a new place, it's always refreshing to find myself immediately inspired with a sense of friendship. It puts me at ease to arrive in a community rather than on the edge of a community. I've gotten so much from couch surfing, and from the unprecedented kindness of others that I'll always reach to return the favors I've been given so many times.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a must, it quiets my mind and it's always on. I like (most) almost anything that is good. Mostly I'm listing to classic folk, folk rock, bluegrass, or some soft electronic indie pop rock mess.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to share. I invest in teaching the things that I know.

Professionally, I research energy efficiency for buildings, and I'm happy to tell. If you were up for it we could talk it through ad infinitum. If you were really up for it we could write it all down together, build it, teach it and live it.

Less professionally, I build bicycles, and know a bit about community organizing, consensus, and nonviolence. Of course, I would happily teach learn and share all I can.
