About Me

We are Nick and Hillary - we live in Vermont, USA, in a yurt we built with our dog Charlie. We have been farming on an organic vegetable farm for the last several years. We love being outside, good healthy food, making connections with people, and traveling. We recently rafted the Grand Canyon's Colorado River - an epic 25 day journey!

We are friendly and outgoing; we live simply and travel simply. We value the sharing-nature of Couchsurfing and are looking forward to making some memories with hosts. We feel gratitude for the generosity of strangers (who will become friends) and we look forward to opening our yurt up for visitors.

** For prosperity sake, we decided to keep Nick's profile from 2005, it's too wonderful to delete :)

CURRENT MISSION

participate fully in the ontological mystery

ABOUT ME

looking to simplify my life and educate myself as much as possible in the process - exploring alternative ways of living and organizing society. Anyone interested in homesteading cuz that's my new goal.

PHILOSOPHY

nothing is perfect, everything is perfect

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are on couchsurfing because we want to meet new people and share in the wonder of exploration!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

If I had a couch, everybody would be welcome, until then, my nomadic ways will be (hopefully with some luck)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

sleeping with four US soccer fans on a pullout love seat in Erlangen, Germany during the world cup is topping the list right now, but...

Interests

**Nick's old profile, still a lot true!:
participating in radical thought, expanding equality throughout the world, finding balance in my life between my physical and metaphysical being, meeting other people who are looking for more in life than just what appears to be, traveling, living on islands (big and small), felling dead trees with barehands, human-powered transportation (when you don't have too much to travel with), my oh my how the list goes on.

Music, Movies, and Books

Here are a couple: Anything Kundera, The three colors trilogy (Keislowski), The Corporation, RATM and Radiohead, Pynchon, Vonnegut, Robbins, Phish, the Dead, MOTOWN (my fav, if I could go back in time and be a backup singer during the 60's, I would)...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Where to start: Lost Coast Cali, REDWOODS!, Yosemite, CANYONLANDS (I love nature), Zion, Grand Canyon, I also like cities, but these natural wonders are too good to pass up

Teach, Learn, Share

Wildness is an essential part of ourselves that our ordinary lives tempt us to forget and by losing touch with that essential part of ourselves we risk losing our souls; wilderness is a place where you’re not worshiping the name of something but the presence. There’s no need for someone to remind you that there’s something in this world that is larger than you are because you can see it: a gathering of life and a gathering of spirit, flowing together. Where else is there such a confluence of grandeur flowing as one?
