ABOUT ME
Has dessert, will travel.
I love exploring and meeting new people. I talk to strangers. I don't make a fuss about nonsense. I enjoy the finer things in life: Good wine, good conversation, good views, good food.
I am Afrikaans and I love my own language, culture and country. I love the outdoors and I am happiest when I lie down to sleep in a tent. I also love history, culture, art and architecture. I enjoy challenging discussions. Let's talk about politics, war, love, religion or worldviews.
I like fashion. I try to dress well. I enjoy hearing a story that is well told. Sometimes I can tell a pretty good story myself. I like my own singing, but I might be the only one. I love whatever is special, unique or unusual. I love coffee.
Let's go dancing. Let's go running or cycling. Let's explore your city or mine. I would love to show you my favourite spots, I hope you will do the same. Let's go to the theatre, let's get lost. Let's find a new way home.
I would love to meet you.
PHILOSOPHY
I am not the centre of the universe. Life is more about others than about myself.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host as often as I can. There are always people in my home. I had a chinese couple for the past two years so I haven't hosted in a while. I love showing my guests around Joburg on weekends and introducing them to my friends. I can make some good recommendations on places to visit in South Africa. I enjoy good food and wine, and will love sharing some with you.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed in Zanzibar for one week, camping in the courtyard of a regular township home, and then staying in a luxury chalet along the Zambezi in the same trip was an unforgettable experience! Just as unforgettable was one night surfing a couch in Beijing and staying up all night with long conversations, and sleeping on rooftops in Iran.
Interests
Running, history, cultures, world views, art, architecture, agriculture, train travel, or pretty much anything else. I live curious.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most amazing things I've done is taking trains all the way from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, and then a typical African bus to Johannesburg. Plan it with www.seat61.com schedules.
I've also travelled by train from Tibet to Irkutsk after seeing Mt Everest!
Seeing the Victoria falls is such an amazing experience it can not be described, you have to experience it for yourself! I also climbed Mt Damavand in Iran and Mt Kenya, and many other outdoor adventures.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know quite a bit about South Africa, our history and politics, Afrikaans, rugby, cricket, and travelling in Southern African countries. I can suggest places to visit in SA, and teach you how to sokkie (local dance).
Countries I’ve Visited
Australia, Brazil, China, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Oman, Russian Federation, Réunion, Switzerland, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Zambia, Zimbabwe
