About Me

I'm some guy who recently decided to do some travelling! Most keen on using couchsurfing to meet people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm trying out travelling to meet people for the first time! I thought Canada was a great one to do this - since I speak the language, I can have an adventure without feeling too lost. All my other trips abroad have been carefully planned holidays or trips with friends.

Also, would like to host people once my flat purchase goes through in Coventry! Handy if you want to go to the NEC for a convention.

Music, Movies, and Books

Check out my letterboxd! https://letterboxd.com/coatedtrout/films/. Not exhaustive but been trying to keep it up to date since lockdown.

Also my backloggd for those into video games - which is exhaustive as best as it can be. https://backloggd.com/u/CoatedTrout/games/added/type:played/.

Books-wise, been really enjoying the mistborn series lately by Brandon Sanderson.

If you're hankering for a reccomendation, though, I'd go for Robert Harris' Cicero trilogy. He's been made a bit more famous recently because of Conclave, which is based on one of his books, but you really fall for all the real characters in his Cicero books. Check them out!

For music, today I listened to a mix of Sea Shanties (The Dreadnoughts, Longest Johns), power metal (Gloryhammer, Beast in Black), and psychadelic rock (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard). I wouldn't say I like everything, but what I do like is all over the place. Hope that helps.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a PhD! Let me know if you want

It's weird because, despite having done all sorts of 'official' achievements, I usually instantly think of an RPG campaign I ran for about two years over lockdown. Keeping everyone in good spirits was certainly a challenge! And the final session for all 14 players was probably the hardest I've ever worked.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm big into my history, and culture in general, so can have a conversation about most things. Anything English or Ancient Roman, though, and I'd consider myself an expert😉

What I Can Share with Hosts

An energetic, go-getting spirit and a positive attitude, and a belief that everyone likes games, it's just that some haven't played with the right people yet 🙂

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, South Korea

Countries I’ve Lived In

Italy, United Kingdom
