COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like couchsurfing when I travel alone as a way to meet with the locals and have some more genuine experience of the city. Although in the past few years I haven't had much chance to do it, because nowadays I tend to travel mostly for work and/or with my partner. Unfortunately, I also cannot host anyone these days, as I would normally like to spend time with my guests and my work schedule makes it really difficult.

Interests

I had been singing in various bands of different genre for ten years until I permanently left Istanbul. Since 2013, I moved around quite a lot and haven't been able to find a new band, but still yearning for one. Otherwise, I like taking photos and put them on instagram as a proper millennial. I am also very much into cooking and occasionally co-organize cooking events around different themes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: balkan, rock, ska, blues, metal
Including but not limited to: janis joplin, shantel, the beatles, gogol bordello, the doors, el cuarteto de nos, la vela puerca, athena, nouvelle vague, inti illimani, camille, les ogres de barback, tryo, mad caddies, beirut, led zeppelin, pink floyd, jefferson airplane, lhasa de sela, blackmore's night, baba zula, blind guardian, russkaja, morcheeba...

Movies: I like movies from Tony Gatlif or Fatih Akin and similar kind of stuff. I have a love-hate relationship with Lars von Trier. Otherwise, I really like sci-fi and my favourite movie (if I have to pick really just one) is probably The Matrix, while my guilty pleasure is watching british period movies. Oh, and I also like to watch documentaries and to rant about them.

Books: I read some sci-fi, fantasy and dystopia stuff, like Death Gate Cycle from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and Tolkienverse in general. I read Les Jeux Sont Faits from Sartre a few times in both Turkish and French, still cannot decide whether it makes me happy or sad. I try to read some popular science as well, but lately I really mostly read papers to sleep as a proper boring phd student.
