ABOUT ME

My name's Nick and I have been traveling my whole life. Mostly living on the East Coast of the US, I graduated from Davidson college in 2011 with a BA in Theatre. But not the acty kind, the badass backstage kind. I work mostly with sets and rigging, just recently working on a cruise ship as an Automation Technician. Other than ships I've worked in DC as a carpenter, The Santa Fe Opera as stage crew, Interlochen Michigan as an electrician, and North Carolina mostly at college and some in Charlotte working with IATSE. I also was a kayak tour guide for a few summers in Puerto Rico. I spend my non-work time doing a range of activities from hiking, skiing, Scuba Diving, reading, exploring random places, and enjoying a good beer or coffee wherever I end up. I'm easy going and very much go with the flow. I got my PADI scuba Divemaster rating in the summer of 2013 in Honduras which was aaaawwweesoooommmeeee. Oftentimes I'll just go out and explore wherever I am and see what I can find. I love dogs. I'm currently traveling around the world for a few years with my friend Kyle, volunteering, workaway-ing, and couchsurfing until I run out of money.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I think the best way to learn about a place is to learn about the people who live there. Couchsurfing lets you dive right on in and get to know a local and see what their life is all about. Why visit somewhere and just hit all the tourist stops and hotels when you can get down and dirty and experience a place the way it should be experienced? YA KNOW?

I pretty much like everything. Except the movie "Epic Movie." That was crap. I'm into all kinds of movies and documentaries. And good nonfiction books but also stupid fiction. Whatever feels right.

Here's a few:
Movies: Jurassic Park, The Big Lebowski, Interstellar, Inception, Anchorman.
Documentaries: What the bleep do we know?, Dying to have known, Nutrition documentaries, Planet Earth.
Books: Vagabonding, The Four Agreements, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Alchemist, Wherever you go There you are.
Music: Folk, Country, Old School Hip Hop, Classic Rock, Indie chill, Ska, Reggae, and so on.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Explore an Ice Cave in Juneau Alaska. The cave is situated directly underneath the Mendenhall Glacier. The deep blue of the ice mixed with the little sunlight that passed in made for one of the coolest (no pun intended) experiences I've ever had.

Okay here's another- Had to sleep at the border between Zambia and Malawi because I arrived too late and the drunken guards got into a little tiff with the cab driver. Ended up sleeping in an abandoned building on a concrete floor and walking the 7km across the border instead of riding in a cab. All while having the shits from drinking bad water.
