For me, traveling is not about taking pictures of touristy places or putting pins on the map. It's about having new experiences, and staying with locals is the best way to have them. Also, I generally like people and the idea of efficient resource use. Why stay at the hotel, if someone's couch is available? Couchsurfing along with airbnb makes me believe in humanity.
