About Me

Hi guys 👋
Thanks for visiting Sri Lanka!
At the moment I spend most of my time between Colombo and Nuwara Eliya, and sometimes I visit Ella.
From 2nd of april to 15th of april i'm not in the country.

About me 😎
I’m more of a host than a surfer. My travel plans can change anytime, so I don’t like to promise staying with hosts and then disappoint them. Because of that, I rarely stay with hosts.
However, I do host travelers whenever I can. Even when I’m travelling, sometimes I can host people where I’m staying.
I’m a frequent traveler, and honestly I’m the kind of guy that only God knows where I’ll wake up tomorrow morning. 😄
I enjoy meeting cheerful people from different cultures around the world.
I grew up in Galle on the south coast, but now I live between Colombo and Nuwara Eliya.
When I’m in Colombo, I usually don’t host, but I’m happy to meet up for a coffee, drink, or chat. If you are in Colombo, feel free to send me a message.
So… I guess you are here already.
Welcome to Sri Lanka 🙏
Tips for First-Time Travelers to Sri Lanka 👇
1️⃣ Mosquito protection
When travelling around the island, it’s a good idea to carry mosquito repellent cream or oil.
Also, using a mosquito vaporizer in your room helps keep mosquitoes away so you can sleep well and avoid dengue fever.
2️⃣ Buy a local SIM card
Get a local prepaid SIM card at Colombo Airport when you arrive.
Dialog usually has the best signal coverage across the island.
If you top up around LKR 1000, it should be enough for a few days of calls and internet.
3️⃣ Train and bus seats
In Sri Lanka, buying a train or bus ticket does not always guarantee you a seat.
If you want a seat, it’s better to reserve in advance.
Using a Dialog SIM card you can dial 444 and use the “Dial for It” service to reserve train tickets. You will receive an SMS confirmation that you can show at the station to collect your ticket.
Reserved seats sell out quickly, so book early.
4️⃣ Cheap local food
Wherever you travel in Sri Lanka, try to find a Hela Bojun Hala (හෙල බොජුන් හල).
These are government-run food outlets where local women prepare traditional Sri Lankan food, mostly vegetarian, at very affordable prices.
It’s one of the cheapest and cleanest ways to eat local food.
5️⃣ Safety tips
Sri Lanka is generally safe and most people are very friendly.
But like anywhere in the world, don’t trust strangers too quickly, especially if someone is overly friendly or offering free things.
Be careful with your belongings in crowded places and beaches, and always watch your food and drinks.
6️⃣ Driving in Sri Lanka
Tourists can now obtain a temporary Sri Lankan driving permit at the airport (around LKR 2000 for one month).
Otherwise you can get it at the Department of Motor Traffic in Werahera, near Colombo.
You will need:
Your driving licence
Passport
Copies of documents
Photos
7️⃣ Healthcare
Government hospitals in Sri Lanka provide free medical treatment, even for tourists.
You can also leave a donation if you wish.
8️⃣ Groceries
For groceries, the best places are supermarkets where prices are fixed.
Good options include:
Cargills Food City
Keells Super
9️⃣ Local markets
Local weekly markets called “Pola” (පොල) are great places to buy fruits, vegetables, and other goods at cheaper prices than city markets.
🔟 Transport
Tuk-tuks are common, but prices may be higher at night.
Apps like PickMe and Uber work well in Colombo and nearby cities.

A small thought about life by a Sri Lankan Buddhist:- You are reading this because of the result of good karma — actions you made in the past.
Intention + volition + action = karma.

Welcome 🙏 to paradise.
Everything in life is impermanent and always changing.
Because nothing is permanent, a life based only on possessing things or people cannot bring lasting happiness.
There is no eternal, unchanging soul. What we call the “self” is simply a collection of changing characteristics and conditions.
To end suffering, one must aim for enlightenment and reach Nirvana — the elimination of greed, hatred, and ignorance.
Nirvana marks the end of the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.
All things are impermanent. Change is the only constant in existence.
Clinging to what is temporary — possessions, people, even identity — creates dissatisfaction. True happiness cannot arise from attachment.
The idea of a fixed, eternal self is an illusion. What we call “I” is a bundle of ever-changing elements: form, sensation, perception, mental formations, and consciousness.
Freedom from suffering comes through wisdom, ethical living, and mental discipline — the Noble Eightfold Path.
Nirvana is not a place but a liberation: freedom from greed, hatred, and delusion.
It is the end of samsāra, the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, and the awakening to the true nature of reality.
🙏
