About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mastering the work life balance, working hard, playing hard, and not forgetting the grown up stuff (healthy life, personal projects...)

ABOUT ME

Having grown up in the south of Germany I stayed one year abroad in England for community service at the age of 18. I then had the chance to go another year abroad to French Canada during my studies. Finally this led me to finish my studies in the south of France where I met Nina. Nina has an art degree and is freelancing in communication while pursuing her projects in photography. You can check out her stuff here: http://ninalaury.com/. We have been living in Marseille since three years now, enjoying Mediterranean life and traveling.

PHILOSOPHY

I do not have a particular philosophy that I would defend. I guess it is good to stay positive, to not forget to focus on the moment, and to not get lost in the past or the future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I originally heard about couchsurfing of a friend and I loved the idea from the first moment on. Nina and I contribute the most we can to this project.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have at least one couchsurfing experience per holiday, even though they are not all taking place via the couchsurfing platform. We like making friends all over the world and then catch up with them when we are in their town, or inviting them in when they are in our town.

Interests

We like interesting people, movies, cartoons (Rick&Morty, Cowboy Bebop, Mind Game, Paprika...) , we like traveling, partying but also just strolling around and seeing interesting things. We used to like music festivals and went to some during our holidays, the last having been the Africa Burn festival in the Tankwa desert in south Africa. We like good food, healthy or savory, both being vegetarians since a little while. We also like all kinds of art and (sub)culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

Nina's brother is House music DJ (https://soundcloud.com/dub-striker), which brought us to appreciate this genre of music. Otherwise I like techno and hip-hop, and have a weird passion for gangster rap / trap music, while Nina loves the occasional 90s tunes.

Nina is a real bookworm, she loves Virginia Wolf (which inspired some of her photography as well) but has many other recommendations on French and international literature to give. I like international literature, always was a fan of Roald Dhal's short stories and am currently reading The Pillar's of Earth.

We like Sci-Fi movies or movies with focus on the characters. We loved the movies of David Cronenberg, for example, who creates this whole universe with a close up perspective on his protagonist(s).
We also like movies and series with a weird touch, one of them being the danish series 'Ridget'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Our biggest and most recent adventure was probably the Africa Burn festival in South Africa. Apparently it is a lot smaller than the American Burning man, but it was very impressive for us Europeans to be lost in the desert and to party with 15000 people 300 km from civilization while radically relying on yourself and being responsible towards nature at the same time.

Teach, Learn, Share

Today more than ever, I think we need to share and develop a common sense for coexistence on our planet. This means being respectful to each other and to nature surrounding us. It means at least to try to be inter-culturally competent, and to learn as much as you can about your near and far away surroundings. It means to be open to change, and not to get lost in tradition.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We love to share the mediterranean lifestyle and culture, with good food, nice drinks, easy climate, laid back people. Benefit of the day by appreciating the sea or strolling in the multicultural, colorful city of Marseille. Benefit of the night by enjoying drinks in the crowded bars of this harbor town.
