About Me

ABOUT ME

Hey, my name is Nir (a ploughed field in Hebrew), I was born and raised in Israel, currently living in Tel Aviv. I am doing my masters in statistics in Tel Aviv University.
I have lived before in China for 3 years, studying Chinese and having a lot of fun.
I am open-minded and easy getting along with. I love nature and animals and have been a vegetarian since the age of 5. I love traveling, trekking, studying languages and meeting interesting people.

PHILOSOPHY

A quotation from the movie "Into the Wild" that inspired me: "Happiness is only real when shared".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hopefully when I have an apartment where I can accomodate, I will do so. For now I would like to participate in CS get-togethers, and just to meet people.

Interests

I am a curious guy who likes learning new things, especially languages.
I love outdoor activities: backpack traveling, running, picnicking, going to the beach, biking... but from time to time also like staying in my room, watching a good movie, or reading a good book with a steaming cup of tea (Chinese, preferably Jasmin flower tea).
I enjoy socializing and meeting people, but I also have self-sufficiency and I am not intimidated by doing things on my own.
I like parties, dancing, drinking games, card games.
I really enjoy riddles and thinking games.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a seven-month backpacking journey to Mongolia, China and New-Zealand which started in June 2006. I collected so many amazing memories from that trip, and also from other trips, but I've picked 3 experiences that left me with an exceptionally deep impression:
1) Bathing in a small, isolated hot spring located far into the Tibetean areas of Sichuan province, while it was snowing on our heads!
2) Going with a tibetean monk and staying with his family for two days in a small village in Qinghai province, not far from earthquake-struck Yushu (which was a unique experience visiting as well). Worth mentioning in particular was joining a religious gathering that the monk's monastry was holding for the village people (no, you are not the only one who's humming YMCA right now) in a big prayer-tent. There were more than a thousand participants over there, dressed in their religious attire and ceremonial ornaments. Needless to say they weren't expecting a blonde-haired foreigner to pop there, so the ammount of attention I was receiving was quite overwhelming (imagine hunderds of pairs of eyes all fixated on you).
3) Watching the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen at the end of a one-week horse trek in a small village in Mongolia, not far from the magnificent Khövsgöl lake, and watching the famous Nadaam festival.
Watching the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen in Tai mountain, Shandong province. I climbed the holy mountain (and boy was it high!) during the night, and was lucky enough to witness that red ball of fire emerging from the sea of clouds.
