Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Have you seen hostel and other accommodation prices? It's ridiculous. I'd rather get to know the locals and experience the culture than stay in a stylized hostel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Alternative (who didn't have that emo punk phase?), Jazz (I'm talkin 1940s big band style), and instrumental themes (John Williams and the like. Have you tried doing anything to the Mission Impossible soundtrack? Everything is instantly 100% cooler)

Movies:
Adventury thrillery stuff. Can't go wrong with Oceans Eleven, Star Trek, Jason Bourne. Also some Film Noir, can't go wrong with the classics.

Books:
Anything that takes my mind off of reality. Anything good. Everything from Eragon to Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter to 2,000 Leagues Under The Sea. I really like multiple-narrator stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked as a housekeeping manager at a resort in a national park for a summer. I'd wake up to the sun hitting the mountains and the lake, work outside every day, swim in the shallows on my lunch break, and go hiking or kayaking or whatever after work. And on the weekends we'd paddle out to the islands and watch the sun set between the mountains and name the stars.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm good with music, decent with cooking, and can make mean hospital corners. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. In fact, I rather prefer it. Nothing beats a hard day's work (except maybe the good meal afterwards).
Pretend I'm a sponge. I want to soak up everything; language, culture, food, habits, obscure skills, stories, laughter and kindness and crazy adventures.

What I Can Share with Hosts

All I can offer is a different world perspective than yours, one that is eager to learn and grow. I can offer a possible alternative view or perhaps a friendly similar one. I can offer an open mind and ready spirit. I offer willing hands and a quick comebacks. I offer stories and fireside tales, quiet companionship and...well, now I'm rambling. I'm trying not to seem desperate; is it working?
