I'm pretty into trying to have things go well for the world overall, and that's dominated my life for quite a while – since college graduation I've been immersed in two projects, each one for seven years, with one still going strong. I've learned A LOT about entrepreneurship, government relations, people, etc. The current project is trying to provide a backstop form of money the world could use if the US dollar ends up losing trust and being devalued, as it appears to be at risk of doing pretty soon.

On the one hand I don't get why most folks aren't trying very hard the way I am, but on the other hand it's kinda set me back a decade on typical life stuff. In a way I still feel like I'm in my twenties, having not gotten married, had kids, or really settled down. So like, I still want to go to dance parties, travel the world, meet a zillion new people, etc the way one does in their twenties, but it's a little awkward as a single 37yo dude to show up at a hostel or minimal techno show with that attitude, or at least that's how it feels to be me at the moment.

I come from a small hippie town, and have landed at the center of the political spectrum, mostly trying to get both sides to get along better. I'm super concerned about the future of AI and have been since 2010, so I'm part of the OG community of "doomers" and contribute to efforts to address those risks in my spare time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined back in college in 2007(!) as I traveled and have hosted and surfed a bit in networks other than couchsurfing too. I'm trying to re-engage with the community here not for a place to stay but to meet the kind of open-minded folks that tend to be here!
