About Me

Seattle's my adopted home - I've been here 6 years, which is longer than I've lived anywhere. My slice of Seattle includes our amazing brewery scene, the ongoing board game revolution, our amazing parks, and some of the best cheap eats in the city.

I want to keep learning, always, and one of my favorite ways to learn is to listen to others' stories, especially if they're from other places and other walks of life.

I'm trying to get out to more live music, and having guests in is a great excuse to do that, so come help me explore Seattle, or let me help you explore your own town.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm always in search of the next adventure, and think the best way to learn about a place is to get away from the other tourists and in with the folks who live there. I stayed in dozens of homes around the US before CouchSurfing.com existed, and want to be able to keep discovering more of the world.

I've received so much kindness from strangers, this just seems natural.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Rock, Jazz (especially big band swing), electronica, and anything you can dance to. Pop has crept into my brain the more West Coast Swing dancing I've done. I didn't think it'd come to this, but I've started to like Justin Bieber.

Best show I've seen: Tune-Yards
Best local shows: Chris King and the Gutterballs, Funky 2 Death

Books: The book that blew my mind most was "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace. nearly 1400 pages and barely a wasted sentence in the whole book. Some of the most visceral, gripping, and emotionally painful scenes I've ever read are in this book. Not an easy book to read, but it is well worth the effort.

Ken Liu's Paper Menagerie - short story collection that delightfully plucked strings in my brain and played with my emotions. Read it!

I've read more fantasy than I care to admit - If you want a beautifully crafted book that blends sci-fi, fantasy, and meandering distraction check out Gene Wolfe's "Book of the New Sun" series/novel in 4 parts. Incredible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived on a bus for three years, touring and playing music all over the US - sang over 600 concerts in 48 states.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, hours of jokes, and pretty decent cooking.

I'm fairly handy, and am usually happy to help out with repairs or chores.
