About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting my mouth around the charming French accent of Québec

ABOUT ME

Right... I'm a 28 year old Swedish-speaking Finn, born in the bilingual town of Jakobstad and currently living in the somewhat larger but equally bilingual city of Montréal. Perhaps that's why I'm doing my PhD on bilingualism :-)

PHILOSOPHY

Vivre, c'est pas anxieusement demander - vivre, c'est bravement oser ;-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've registered today, but that's not to say I'm new to the activities. I've guided foreign friends and friends of friends in Helsinki and I've been guided in the same way in many different places. I think it's an excellent way to get to know both people and the city.

Interests

As a brief look at the language page will tell, I'm interested in languages :-) But not in languages as such, I've never done dead languages like Latin. My interest comes from all the doors that new languages opens, both to different cultures and to new people. I love reading as well or to socialise with my friends. A good book in the couch with a cup of tea is very nice, as is a lively discussion with my friends over a bottle of wine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Wouldn't it be nice to say 'dancing with wolves', but I'm no Kevin Costner. The only time I've met a wolf in the wild, it ran away.

My first day in Sarajevo was truly amazing. I did not know what to expect, but I was completely overwhelmed by city. The mix between East and West, the tastes and the smell but most of all by the people. There can be no other capital where people are so friendly and open and show such hospitality to strangers.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I love to talk - to talk about everything, a favourite way for my friends and my to spend time is to have (sometimes heated) discussions about everything from philosophy and politics to sports and music. Being interested in languages and having helped people with languages such as Swedish, Finnish or Irish Gaelic, I love to do it again. What I'm looking to learn at the moment is how to improve my French and how to get to know this city I've just arrived in.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
