About Me

I'm an anthropologist working in indigenous rights and tropical forest conservation. I'm an activist, a sometimes academic, and a firm believer in the necessity of absurdity.

I'm at the start of a year (or two) long trip which will involve cycling across France and Italy, and then heading off to South America to work with indigenous organisations as I travel around the continent. I would say my main passions include travelling, throwing shapes while being covered in glitter, doing just about any outdoors activity, and actively participating in the struggle for social and environmental justice.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a great way to meet people from all kinds of backgrounds and to experience a place as it really is, not just touristically.

Interests

I wouldn't necessarily call these hobbies but ways in which I like to spend my time include cycling, hiking, camping, surfing, dancing, enjoying live music or poetry, swimming (often in freezing temperatures), participating in activism, and general merriment of the sort which ends with you and your mates on the floor unable to breathe and passersby wondering what the hell is happening.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite book (which was actually introduced to me by another CSer) is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. I absolutely encourage everyone to read this. It's the most unique and insightful story I've ever read that perfectly articulates humanity's perspective on the world and our place within it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 18, I spent 5 months on a ship circumnavigating the globe. I felt I saw the whole of humanity with all of our differences and similarities. The things that make us who and what we are and the dichotomy of good and bad that goes along with it. I also got amoebic dysentery so bad I ran out of toilet paper in the night and had to start hosing myself off in the shower instead.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm vegetarian and I always enjoy cooking for people, especially if they're not accustomed to having meatless dishes.
